The Cedars School is Independent Primary school in West Berkshire for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
At The Cedars we aim to help your son to acquire the moral, intellectual and social virtues that are so important for a happy and fulfilled life. At the heart of The Cedars School is the idea of personal growth: helping each boy to acquire the moral, intellectual and social virtues that are so important for a happy and fulfilled life, within a framework of Catholic principles. The aim is to work in partnership with parents to help each boy grow into the best young man that he can become. A Cedars School education aims to lead each boy to become a great young man through helping him develop his full powers of mind and character. The approach, and our size, allow us to provide opportunities for leadership and service that play to an individual’s strengths while taking him out of his ‘comfort zone’. All of this is supported by our unique tutorial system which creates space for a personalised programme for all-round development.
Curriculum
The Cedars School curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced and academically rigorous. As you know, the task of a teacher is not simply to impart information or to provide training in skills intended to deliver some economic benefit to society; education is not and must never be considered as purely utilitarian. It is about forming the human person, equipping him or her to live life to the full – in short it is about imparting wisdom. Art and creativity are exciting areas of study. In The Cedars School’s art rooms pupils have and opportunity to build their skills and understanding of Art and Design. Biology is the study of living organisms divided into many specialised fields. These fields include morphology, physiology, anatomy, behaviour, origin and distribution. Chemistry is an enquiry-based discipline involving practical and investigational skills. The chemistry curriculum at The Cedars provides regular opportunity to experience hands-on experimental work. This allows our students to hone their practical and analytical skills.
Co-Curricular
While the classroom remains key to Cedars life, they understand the importance co-curricular activities have in creating a well-rounded education. Through Sport and Music, along with a comprehensive range of other extra-curricular clubs they create an essential part to the all-round education for our students here at The Cedars. They actively encourage all boys to play a full part in the wider life of the school.
Clubs & Societies
The Cedars provides a wide range of clubs and activities designed to encourage pupils to participate and experience new interests. The Cedars School prides itself on having a variety of interesting and energetic clubs and societies which engage pupils and give them the opportunity to discover new passions or pursue their own intellectual interests. Clubs range from Gardening Club to Table Top Gaming and include Debating, Chess Club, Computer Science, Cross-Country, Reading Club, Choir, String Ensemble and S&C to name just a few. They aim to have something for everyone and we encourage all students to get involved. If a pupil has an idea for a new club or society, they are encouraged to discuss it with us, and more often than not, the club or society will become a regular fixture in the School Calendar.
