The Gleddings School is Independent Primary school in Calderdale for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
Established for more than 60 years, the school is co-educational with around 200 pupils. The age range is 3-11 years. Parents generally enrol their children before they are born.They develop self discipline, self respect and confidence within The Gleddings unique “YOU CHOOSE” ethos. They encourage children to “THINK” and to learn how to learn. The children enjoy coming to school and it is their love of learning that is the main contributor to their many successes.Our academic results speak for themselves, but we aim to deliver much more. Located in the beautiful wooded area of The Gleddings, Little Gleddings is purpose-built, environmentally friendly and designed to include the best possible indoor and outdoor facilities.The amazing Gleddings' staff team, some of whom are past Gleddings pupils and parents themselves, will do everything possible to ensure the happiest of times for your little ones and peace of mind for you
PRE PREP
The Pre Prep is a HAPPY, busy place where children feel secure and gain independence. Every day there are wonderful new things to do and to learn. Pre Prep promotes enquiring minds and equips children with the skills, knowledge and positive attitudes that are all key to future success.
LOWER I (RECEPTION)
In this first year of compulsory education, children ENJOY their learning. They have many opportunities to experiment, discover, understand and develop as they relish learning to read, write and understand numbers.All of the time children are encouraged to develop good relationships, manners and behaviour.
FORM I (YEAR ONE)
Children are EXCITED by the first year of Key Stage 1. The teaching and learning is more formal but still very interactive in core subjects (English, Mathematics, Science and Computing) and foundation study (History, Geography, Design Technology, Music, Art, PE, PSHE and Citizenship).
FORM II (YEAR TWO)
In this last year of Key Stage 1 we aim to create INDEPENDENT and CONFIDENT learners who become great problem solvers! Team working continues but individual tasks encourage greater focus and quicker reaction as they prepare children for work in Key Stage 2.
FORM III (YEAR THREE)
The first stage of Key Stage 2 is undoubtedly a “bit of an ADVENTURE”. Learning now demands self motivation, organisation and the willingness to rise to a challenge. It is more structured and requires self (rather than parent) organisation to manage class work and homework.
LOWER IV (YEAR FOUR)
Year 4 children assume an even greater responsibility for their learning. The children relish a challenge and gain the confidence, enthusiasm and motivation to explore new skills and knowledge.
MIDDLE IV (YEAR FIVE)
The classroom atmosphere is very energetic, very productive and full of FUN. Every child’s success is encouraged and celebrated, as is an interest in learning which extends beyond the classroom. Children move into their final Gleddings year with very good skills, high self esteem and a CAN DO attitude.
MUSIC
Music is an integral part of life at The Gleddings School. tHEY aim to engender in THE children a love of music which they will retain for life. tHEY know that music helps THE children to gain self-confidence, interact socially with their peers and other age groups and develop their creativity, which in turn helps their progress in other areas of the curriculum.
ART AND DESIGN
We aim for children to enjoy and share our enthusiasm for Art and Design by participating in a wide range of ‘hands on’ practical activities. Children are able to develop in confidence and to improve their techniques. They also learn to respect the materials, tools and resources that they explore.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PE)
Physical Education is taught to ensure that all pupils will find enjoyment in physical activity. They will develop an interest in sport which they will want to continue throughout their life and therefore promote an active and healthy lifestyle.The Physical Education curriculum promotes the development and understanding of games, gymnastics, dance, athletics and swimming and therefore provides opportunities for pupils to be creative, competitive and to face up to different challenges as individuals or working as a team member.
