The Lyceum is Independent Primary school in Hackney for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
The Lyceum is a unique, co-educational independent school in the heart of the City of London (EC2) for children between the ages of 4-11. It is a happy place where learning is rich, fulfilling and exciting.Through a broad curriculum offering, coupled with our highly skilled and enthusiastic staff team, we will discover the unique genius that is within each child. This will enable them to develop into young people who are truly self confident and who will make a positive contribution to the world. They are housed in a beautiful 5-storey building, with adjoining playground, specialist art, science and yoga classroom, library and a canteen.
Reception
As with the Nursery children, teaching staff are on hand each day at drop-off time to greet the Reception classes and their parents; this ensures a smooth transition into school as any messages from home can be passed straight onto the team. Collection time also gives you a chance to catch up with the teaching staff, and if you feel you need more time to chat, you can always ask to arrange a ‘touch base’ meeting with them at any time. We understand that starting ‘proper school’ can at first be quite an emotional experience, both for you and your child, and we will be on hand to reassure and provide comfort when it is needed.
Prep School
The topic-based approach is integrated with the National Curriculum, providing broad and balanced cross curricular opportunities that help to develop a strong work ethic, emphasising independent thinking and learning skills. Children work within broad topics which draw on many subjects including English, Geography, History and Art.Where there are strong links, the main topic is taught across the curriculum but where lessons do not link with the topic, these are taught discretely. This topic-based method inspires the children to fully immerse themselves in the topics and, by providing a holistic approach to education, it enables vital connections to be made so that a pupil’s understanding of the world can be fully developed.
Extra Curriculuar
At The Lyceum School, we pride ourselves in offering an exciting variety of before and after school clubs and provide wrap-around care for busy working parents, every day from 8am to 5.45pm.Clubs are a great way for children to try something new, and to make friends in different year groups. There is always a wide range of clubs on offer, whether your child is creative, sporty, musical, or would like to try something new. Clubs are extremely popular at the school and are attended by most children.
Sports
At The Lyceum, children master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching – all of which help to improve their balance, agility and coordination. They develop attacking and defending tactics through participation in team games including rugby, basketball, netball, football, tennis, cricket, athletics and rounders. During dance and gymnastics classes, pupils develop their rhythm and agility, reproducing movement patterns in addition to learning and choreographing routines.
Music
They value music highly at The Lyceum and firmly believe its place in education should not be underestimated. Music is known to be good for one’s mental and physical health. We truly feel that it has many transferable benefits for children’s development such as improving concentration, teaching patience and co-operation, enhancing co-ordination, exposing them to new cultures and encouraging self-expression. As a result, music is an integral and important part of daily life at The Lyceum.
Art
They believe Art and Design stimulates our children’s creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a unique way of understanding and responding to the world around us.The pupils at The Lyceum School are encouraged to explore ideas and meanings in the work of artists, craftspeople and designers, learning about the diverse roles and functions of art, craft and design in contemporary life, and in different times and cultures.
Selection Criteria: Selective
