Description

The Norwegian Kindergarten In London is Independent Primary school in Merton for kids aged 2 to 6 (Gender - Mixed )

The Norwegian School in London ran a kindergarten on its premises in Wimbledon for many years until it was decided to establish it as a separate legal entity in May 2014. It first opened its doors August same year offering children aged 2.5‑5 years a nursery school education based on the Norwegian Framework plan. The kindergarten is a registered English charity financed by annual fees. The Board is responsible for running the kindergarten in accordance with English and UK law. The Board oversees the finances, updates governing policies and manages the reporting of financial plans, annual budget and accounts to the UK authorities. The Board is the employer for all positions.

Facilities

Little Vikings
Little Vikings is an all English speaking, part time nursery & pre-school for little explorers aged 3-5 years old. We want the children in our care to feel a part of a tribe. This is important to us, because we believe that secure attachment is essential for their development - their ability to learn and explore the world around them. Hence, Little Vikings offers a three day, part time schedule with the same staff and pupils - every week, every time. The program and teaching will be based on the Norwegian framework and Scandinavian philosophy which is all about play-based learning and “friluftsliv”. This concept, loosely translated to outdoor living or open-air living, encourages outdoor adventures for all ages in all weather. This is a deep-seated element of life in the Nordic countries.

Features

Things to note

The days are a mix of structured activities and free play. We have an expansive outdoor space with a mini forest where the children play freely, they climb trees or make cakes in the mud kitchen.Every week they have music classes with a music educator, the five year olds also have some classes where they work with school prep activities.Tuesdays and Thursdays are spent outdoors all day. Tuesday we may be in our outside play area and/or take go to a nearby park. Every Thursday we go on a longer trip to the Commons or say, Cannizaro Park. They aim to balance our days with movement and rest, so we also read to the children a lot and encourage them to do puzzles, arts & crafts projects in addition to the topical classes we have where we address topics from the Framework Plan.
