Welcome to Townley Grammar School, an academically selective and socially responsible girls’ school with a coeducational Sixth Form. They are an exceptional school rated outstanding by Ofsted and highly commended by the DfE for our leading-edge character education provision. With such an education our girls have a duty to grow into young women who desire to improve the world for others; to be the change they wish to see Townley Grammar School has been successful in supporting social mobility for its students and aspires to extend this to a wider group of disadvantaged young people through providing rich learning experiences, extensive extra-curricular opportunities and aspirational goals for the students of both schools.
Facilities
Year 7 (Ages 11 to 12)
Most subjects are taught in Tutor groups with some of the practical subjects being taught in smaller mixed groups. Students study French, German or Spanish as their Language option and also study Latin, Sustainable Leadership and History of Art as part of their Enrichment programme.
Year 8 (Ages 12 to 13)
Students are now set for Mathematics across half a Year group. They begin a second language, in addition to the language studied in Year 7. In Year 8, three groups of students will also have the option to continue with the study of Latin, combined with International Relations, instead of a second modern foreign language.
Year 9 (Ages 13 to 14)
Students begin their GCSE courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, each being delivered as discreet subjects. Setting now occurs in Languages.
Sixth Form
Townley Grammar School Sixth Form is a vibrant, friendly, co-ed, high achieving and diverse learning community that fosters academic excellence alongside emotional and physical confidence. It is our aim to create inspirational learners who have the courage to take risks and the wisdom to learn from their mistakes.

Ambit
Townley Ambit will provide students with a wide range of extracurricular opportunities which complement Townley 21c. The Ambit programme takes place on Monday afternoons, providing students with a bespoke, expert and interest led compendium of experiences including (but not limited to) the creative and performing arts, Mandarin, Russian, coding, meditation and mindfulness, yoga and sport.
The Arts
The Visual and Performing Arts facilities are exceptional and provide an inspirational environment for students to explore their creativity and take risks as learners. Through the Arts there are opportunities to perform in Dance, Drama and Music or express themselves through Visual Media.
Sports
Here at Townley, we believe that sport provides students with key life skills that include; teamwork, co-operation, communication, fair play and strategic thinking. These skills are vitally important in delivering the leaders of tomorrow.
