Prep School 7-13 Years
Let’s fast-forward a few years and start at the end. When your child leaves this school, no doubt to go on to one of the outstanding senior schools in the country, they know they will do so with a smile on their face, happy in the knowledge that they are well prepared and have loved every minute here. They will have made friends for life and learned vital life lessons too. They will depart, confident and impressive young people, equipped with the personal accomplishments and academic achievements that will enable them to do great things in the world. From the New Forest, with a setting of almost unrivalled tranquillity and beauty, they set children out on education’s great odyssey. They believe that such a journey should be an exciting adventure, not an arduous trek, something to stir their spirits not fuel their fears.
Sport
Sport is timetabled for most days and is taught in groups of Years 3 and 4, 5 and 6, and 7 and 8. We arrange a comprehensive fixture list, either against other private schools or for inter-house competitions, and each week Walhampton fields up to 24 teams. The sports include football, hockey, rugby, netball, cross country, cricket, athletics, rounders and swimming. As well as these more traditional sports, our pupils also compete in riding and sailing competitions.
Art
As you’d expect, the Walhampton Art department is a hotbed of ideas and innovation, an active and vibrant area where the environment encourages creativity and is accessible for all children. The school art rooms are large and well-equipped, allowing the children to work in a range of different materials and scales. (Keeping things clean and tidy is another challenge.)Creativity doesn’t always work to a timetable, so children have the opportunity to get involved in all elements of the art department through after school clubs, enrichments and some break times. Our gifted art scholars enjoy further opportunities to express creativity through the scholarship program.
Extra Curricular Activities
Childhood is a time to discover new interests and pursue what you love. The Hampshire grounds and facilities mean they can offer 60-plus activities – and offering such a wide range of experiences lies at the core of our approach to developing the whole person. These take place for all children on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17.00 to 17.45. These provide an opportunity to sample, enjoy, develop and improve new skills and experiences. With a range of activities usually on offer, there is always something new to choose. A full list is available from the school but regulars include tennis, sailing, running club, chess, comedy club and dance.

SCHOLARSHIPS
As a world-class private school we have always been committed to an education that inspires and stretches every single one of our children. They all have passions. They all have talent. And some demonstrate exceptional levels of both in a particular subject. Where that’s the case, they may qualify for a scholarship – additional financial support in order to pursue the highest levels of achievement in that specialism.
