Westbourne School is an independent school for boys and girls aged 3–16 years old.

Facilities

  • Westbourne School is set in a spacious Victorian building which provides large working spaces for both academic and vocational learning. Each classroom is fitted out with distinct learning, ICT and calm areas to allow for a variety of learning experiences. 
  • Standalone Science, Art and Catering rooms which allows for high quality, practical learning.
  • The ground floor consists of a variety of purpose-built vocational units with high quality facilities and equipment which give pupils a sense of real working environments.
  • There are also horticulture spaces on site and the school is close to a variety of large woods and country parks which provide opportunities for Outdoor Education and Duke of Edinburgh activities.
  • They also have a large Pastoral space, sensory room, library and 1:1 intervention spaces.

At Westbourne School, they strive to ensure that a holistic approach is used to support the pupils not only at school, but also in their everyday lives. Through the use of a variety of specialisms, they are able to meet each pupil’s unique individual needs through either group or 1:1 focussed sessions. Therapeutic inputs include: Speech & Language therapy, occupational therapy, movement therapy, counselling, art therapy and cognitive behaviour therapy amongst others.

Admission Details

Initially, all pupils admitted to Westbourne School are referred by their Local Authority (LA). Upon receiving the EHCP and any other relevant documents, the school Senior Leadership Team and where appropriate, therapeutic team will review and make a decision whether to proceed. If the admissions criteria is met, arrangements will be made for the pupil and parents/carers to visit the school. This will include a tour and provide the opportunity to get to know the child and understand their needs as well as allow visitors to ask any additional questions. During the visit, they will also discuss curriculum, key policies and expectations and there will be an opportunity to meet any key staff. If after this all parties agree that the pupil’s needs can be met by the school and that the pupil and parents/carers are committed to the placement, arrangements will be made for admission.
