Facilities

Key Stage 3
Students study a broad range of subjects across the disciplines at Key Stage 3 and subjects are largely taught in mixed ability teaching groups, with some smaller groups in DT. The curriculum consists of the following: The core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, the humanities of History, Geography and Religious Studies, two modern foreign languages from French or German, Spanish or Russian, together with Latin, Computing, Music, Physical Education, Art and Design Technology.  At the end of Year 8 students select to continue with two out of the three languages. Staff use a variety of teaching methods. Special emphasis is placed on active participation of pupils in lessons. They are encouraged to develop independence and to take responsibility for aspects of their studies.

GCSE
Girls usually take ten Key Stage 4 subjects at GCSE chosen in Year 9. They take a core of English, English Literature and Mathematics. Then choose to study either separate sciences at GCSE or the combined Trilogy Science award.  Students that select Trilogy have a further free choice of GCSE subjects. All are required to choose one humanity (from Geography, History or Religious Studies) and one language from French or German, Spanish or Russian, or Latin currently at Key Stage 3.

Key Stage 5
In Years 12-13 (the Sixth Form) a range of A Level subjects are offered.  All girls in Year 12 take three or four A Levels and most will continue with a maximum of three option choices into Year 13, with the opportunity to complete the Extended Project Qualification.  The PSHE programme includes preparation for UCAS application towards the end of Year 12. The Sixth Form programme offers a broad enrichment programme which includes opportunities for PE, community service, university talks and workshops, First Aid Training and Engineering in Education, as well as the prospect of students organising their own work experience to take part in.   Sixth-form girls carry out a range of Prefect responsibilities and assist with school events.

Extra Curricular Activities
As well as ensuring academic success, we are serious about having fun and enjoying time at school. This is achieved through providing a wealth of extra curricular activities for students for engage in. All of the girls are gifted in different ways, we aim to unlock those gifts and help girls to flourish. Helping our girls to develop in the areas that they love is a central part of education at Girls’ High. Whether your daughter is an avid sportswoman, a budding musician, at home on the stage, or all of the above then there are endless opportunities to grow these skills. Whether she loves to dance, paint, draw or debate, she will be supported to develop.
