Features

  • Animals: St Andrews Aquarium features a fascinating array of species—including Humboldt penguins, common snapping turtles, Caribe piranhas, the massive bird-eating tarantula, Argentine horned (Pacman) frogs, Cuvier’s dwarf caimans, diverse tropical marine and freshwater fish, red-footed tortoises, green tree pythons, native British sharks and rays (like Bull Huss and Thornback rays), axolotls, and more than 120 species in total.
  • Dinosaurs: As you enter the aquarium, and you take the plunge downstairs to meet our first animals, you’ll travel back millions and millions of years to the time of the Dinosaurs. Not only is studying dinosaurs crucial because it helps us understand Earth’s ancient history and the evolution of life, but they are just cool and everyone loves them, right? Dinosaurs ruled the planet millions of years ago and studying their fossils provides valuable insights into their anatomy, behaviour, and environment. By examining their bones and tracks, scientists can reconstruct their ecosystems, learn about their diets, and even understand their social structures.
  • Animal Talks: Get to know our amazing animals even better by coming along to one of our many daily feeding sessions and talks. Our highly knowledgeable keepers will deliver fun and informative sessions, packed with loads of interesting info. We have six animal talks each day, starting from 12noon. Please feel free to ask our keepers any questions, they love chatting about our animals.
