The Welsh Mountain Zoo, also known as the National Zoo of Wales, is the oldest and most established zoo in the country, set on 37 acres overlooking Colwyn Bay and the Carneddau mountains. Since 1963, it has welcomed visitors to enjoy a unique mix of nature, animals, and learning. It’s an ideal family destination with breathtaking views and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Visitors can meet snow leopards, red pandas, sea lions, and chimpanzees, and enjoy up-close animal experiences with meerkats, penguins, or primates. The Jungle Adventureland play area, botanical gardens, and daily animal talks and sea lion presentations keep guests of all ages entertained. Seasonal events and themed days offer extra fun throughout the year.

Gate prices are £18.90 for adults, £15.30 for children, and £1.80 for under-3s. Online tickets are slightly cheaper, starting at £17.10 for adults and £13.50 for children.

Amazing Animals: Nestled in the stunning landscapes of North Wales, our Zoo provides a safe and enriching environment for our diverse collection of animals, from snow leopards and red pandas to chimpanzees and sea lions.
Animal Experiences: These special experiences are perfect for individuals or couples, giving you the chance to meet meerkats, humboldt penguins, californian sea lions or primates up close. You’ll help feed them, chat with our friendly keepers and learn amazing facts about these incredible animals!
Gardens & Grounds: The Zoo is also a flora conservation centre, with an extensive garden and botanical collection to maintain! They work with a broad range of plant life, from native trees and shrubs to tropical plants and even several rare botanical species. Seed has arrived from far-flung places such as Chile, Russia and the Himalayas to be planted in the Zoo’s gardens.
Jungle Adventureland: Dive into the heart of adventure with our Jungle Adventureland Play Area, an exciting, nature-inspired space where children can explore and play in a safe, fun environment.

Food & Drinks: The Zoo offers year-round catering at the Penguin Café and Safari Restaurant, with pop-up vendors during peak times.
Parking: All of the parking here is free of charge at owners’ risk.
Picnic areas: Picnic areas are available across the site, with undercover spots but no indoor dining for picnics.
Baby changing: Toilets are located by the Zoolicious sweet shop and under the Safari Restaurant near the Tiger habitat. Baby changing is available in both locations.
