The Welsh Mountain Zoo, also known as the National Zoo of Wales, is the oldest and most established zoo in the country, set on 37 acres overlooking Colwyn Bay and the Carneddau mountains. Since 1963, it has welcomed visitors to enjoy a unique mix of nature, animals, and learning. It’s an ideal family destination with breathtaking views and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Visitors can meet snow leopards, red pandas, sea lions, and chimpanzees, and enjoy up-close animal experiences with meerkats, penguins, or primates. The Jungle Adventureland play area, botanical gardens, and daily animal talks and sea lion presentations keep guests of all ages entertained. Seasonal events and themed days offer extra fun throughout the year.

Gate prices are £18.90 for adults, £15.30 for children, and £1.80 for under-3s. Online tickets are slightly cheaper, starting at £17.10 for adults and £13.50 for children.

  • Amazing Animals: Nestled in the stunning landscapes of North Wales, our Zoo provides a safe and enriching environment for our diverse collection of animals, from snow leopards and red pandas to chimpanzees and sea lions.

  • Parking: All of the parking here is free of charge at owners’ risk.
  • Picnic areas: Picnic areas are available across the site, with undercover spots but no indoor dining for picnics.
  • Baby changing: Toilets are located by the Zoolicious sweet shop and under the Safari Restaurant near the Tiger habitat. Baby changing is available in both locations.

  • By Car: The Zoo is just off the A55 expressway. From the A55, exit at the Rhos-on-Sea interchange (Junction 20) – and follow the signs to the Zoo. Standard Parking: Free for all guests.
  • By Train: The nearest train station is Colwyn Bay, approximately 1.5 miles from the Zoo. You can catch a bus or 5-minute taxi from the station.
