Scholarships
We offer 11+ and 16+ scholarships in the following areas:
- Art scholarships
- Sports scholarships
- Music scholarships
- Drama scholarships
Please note that we do not offer any scholarships at 7+ nor academic scholarships at 11+ or 16+.
We have around eight scholarships for 11+ applicants and four for 16+ applicants. These scholarships are for students who demonstrate outstanding merit and promise. They are only awarded to pupils who also do well in their assessment and interview.
In addition, we are also fortunate to have very good links with the neighbouring Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama (JGSMD), located just two minutes away, next to the Barbican Centre. Through this relationship we are able to offer a joint scholarship to a year 7 pupil every year, which enables a selected pupil to have specialist instrumental tuition at JGSMD.
Scholarships are worth up to £1,500 per year. They are valid for five years. After five years, students will be invited to reapply for a scholarship in the sixth form.
Bursaries
We believe that City's vast range of educational opportunities must be open to pupils who will benefit most from learning here, not just those who can afford the fees. We are committed to providing school places to pupils regardless of financial means and we therefore offer bursaries and scholarships for entry into year 7 and year 12. Approximately 25% of our current senior school pupils receive some form of financial assistance.
Bursary awards range from smaller awards of 25% right up to 100% (full fee) awards. These awards are means tested. As we do not offer academic scholarships at City, we encourage you to apply for a bursary award if you think that you would qualify, even if for a smaller award rather than a full fee award.
Bursaries are awarded if a pupil is successful in the entrance exam and interview, her family’s bursary application is successful, and if there are sufficient funds available in the bursary fund. Our bursaries are awarded thanks to the generosity of benefactors, the City of London Corporation and the City Livery Companies, with whom the school maintains a strong and special link.
The worth of a bursary is awarded on a sliding scale, depending on your means. We are also able to award additional assistance to recipients of full fee bursaries. This covers such costs as curriculum-based school trips, travel to and from school by public transport and uniform costs.
Please email admissions@clsg.org.uk or bursaries@clsg.org.uk if you have any questions at all about bursary applications.
The bursary application process is online and a link will be sent to all those who have indicated that they may wish to apply for a bursary once registration closes.
