EARLY YEARS
At William Tyndale they have one Nursery class and two Reception classes. They teach through a creative, play based curriculum using a combination of whole class teaching sessions, small focus groups and working with children individually. The children learn through a combination of adult led and child-initiated activities. The focus is to provide hands on experiences to learn and discover.Staff promote high levels of interest and creative thinking with a strong emphasis on developing language throughout all the curriculum areas. Through exploration in a safe, stimulating environment the children develop confidence and an interest in the world around them.It is important for children to have a positive start to their school experience and a key part of teaching in the Foundation Stage is supporting the children to develop their social skills and relationships with their peers. The staff support children in their play to communicate and share ideas and older children from the school also volunteer as peer mentors.
ART AND DESING
They are fortunate to have a dedicated room for art which encourages children to develop their creativity in a separate space. They are well resourced to allow children to experience a range of media, including printing, different types of paint, clay and other materials for sculpture. We believe in building creativity and ensure that they make links across the curriculum whilst developing knowledge of artists and art techniques in a variety of disciplines, including drawing, sculpture and digital media, among others.
SCIENCE
At William Tyndale, we encourage children to be curious scientists. They believe that it is important for children to have as many memorable hands-on scientific opportunities across their school career. In order to provide these opportunities, the science curriculum has been carefully crafted to include opportunities for children to develop the key knowledge identified within each topic, as well as the application of the scientific skills. We ensure that the ‘Working Scientifically’ skills are built-on and developed throughout children’s time at school so that they can apply their knowledge of science when conducting experiments, making observations or predictions, explaining concepts and asking questions.
REMOTE LEARNING
They also use this platform at school, where appropriate, to open up new learning opportunities whilst developing children’s knowledge of how to use the technology. Google Classroom is a free and secure learning platform that is accessible online through any device with internet capabilities (such as iPhone, iPad, Android or computers). Within the platform, learning tasks and materials can be easily set and viewed with helpful feedback for the students.
PSHE
The goal for PSHE education is that children know how to be safe, healthy and emotionally regulated, so they can manage their future lives in a positive way, by developing: understanding of how to look after the physical and mental health and well-being; the ability to build healthy, respectful relationships based on equality and non-discrimination; and the personal, social and academic attributes needed to make a meaningful contribution to society
SEND
At William Tyndale our vision is to provide ‘an exceptional education for all’. This vision underpins everything we do and ensures inclusion of all children is our highest priority. We employ a speech and language therapist (SLT) who works with children individually and in small groups. Our SLT also works closely with staff who are able to support SLT interventions consistently with targeted children in class. She also works in collaboration with our allocated NHS speech and language therapist. We have a designated Pastoral Leader and pastoral support worker. We also have regular support from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). Both these members of staff can support with difficulties such as attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), depression, eating disorders and attachment disorder. Our play therapist works in school once a week and we also have access to Islington Schools well-being service.
CLUBS
Throughout the year, we run a number of activities and clubs. These vary from year to year and from term to term, depending on demand. They take feedback from children through School Council and pupil questionnaires on the kinds of activities they would like to see running at William Tyndale. They have also asked for parents' suggestions and ideas.
