Dean Close Airthrie centres on the experience of childhood; the curiosity that nests there and the imagination that makes children so special. Pre Prep
At Dean Close Airthrie, they aim to promote a love of learning and develop intellectual curiosity through exciting experiences both in and out of the classroom. They offer a broad and balanced curriculum which follows the National Curriculum. From the moment a child joins the school in Pre-Prep, they help them to feel part of the Airthrie family straight away.Reception is our Early Years Foundation Stage class. In this crucial, formative stage, the curriculum is tailored to give the children opportunities to explore, play, be creative, make friends and develop a love of learning. The children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and are taught in both an indoor and outdoor classroom by highly qualified staff, alongside specialist teachers for French, Music, Drama and Sport.
Prep
Years 3 to 6 provide the stepping stones to senior school. Lessons are stimulating and meaningful and children are provided with the opportunities to develop skills for learning and skills for life. There are residential trips (UK and overseas) and pupils also compete against other local schools in most sports. In upper Key Stage 2 we prepare for entrance to secondary schools. Once Grammar and Independent school entrance and scholarship tests are complete, and in preparation for the transition to Year 7, study skills become part of the curriculum. They are also prepared by activities which develop their independence and the routines which will be expected.

Before & After School Care
They also and offer late pick-up 'Late Book' and ‘Tea Time Club’ until 5:30pm. Children can play board games or carry out homework tasks, read, etc. In the summer months, Late Book pupils often play in the garden. Late Book runs from 3:30pm - 4:45pm and there is an extra charge for this service.Children staying for Tea Time are served a light tea and are able to request from a choice of sandwiches, wraps, crumpets, crackers, yogurt, fresh fruit and salad vegetables. There is an extra charge for this service.
