Description

Ampleforth College is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for kids aged 11 to 19.

Facilities

  • A library furnished with famous 'mouseman' fittings providing a quiet and reflective space for students to focus on individual study
  • A newly re-furbished Performing Arts Centre with retractable seating, a sprung floor and mirrored walls

  • A well-equipped Infirmary with two twin rooms, a single room, a 7 bay boy’s ward, a 7 bay girl’s ward, a consulting room, treatment room and a quiet/counselling room
  • An iPad scheme rolled out throughout the school providing a focus for collaboration and communication using Keynote or Explain Everything and a tool for synthesising knowledge through apps such as Poplet

  • The Combined Cadet Force at Ampleforth provides students with the opportunity to develop their self-discipline and sense of responsibility. 
  • Duke of Edinburgh is divided into four sections; volunteering, physical recreation, skills and expedition.

Selection Criteria: Selective

Admission Details

Year 7 & 8 Entry: Whilst Ampleforth College is broadly non-selective, children wishing to join Year 7 and 8 are required to sit assessment test. There are three assessment, English, Maths and Non Verbal Reasoning. 

Year 9 Entry: For entry into Year 9 all students are required to sit a pre-test before receiving an offer. Students coming from prep schools will normally sit Common Entrance and we work with your school to coordinate this part of the application process. They ask for a minimum score of 50% at Common Entrance, although in practice most students attain a significantly higher score. 

Year 10 & 11 Entry: For entry into Years 10 and 11 offers are dependent on an interview and a reference from the student’s current school. They will also issue a Maths assessment for completion.

Year 12 Entry: Each year around 30 additional students are accepted to join Year 12 for Sixth Form programme. Ampleforth College’s excellent teaching, wide range of extra-curricular programmes. A minimum of 3 Grade 5s and 2 Grade 6s for students following GCSE courses. Students who wish to study for BTECs must have a minimum of 5 Grade 4s.
