Nursery
Graded as ‘Outstanding’ in our most recent ISI inspection and shortlisted for ‘Early Years Setting of the Year’ in 2018, our Nursery is made up of two classes: Little Owls (ages 2 - 3) and Wise Owls (rising 4s). The caring and inspiring staff create a secure and happy environment, enabling children to thrive. It really is the perfect start to your child’s education, giving them a great head start as they move into the Reception classes.Inspiring and engaging classrooms lead out to dedicated outdoor spaces for each Nursery class. There are chickens, mud kitchens, vegetable beds and a bespoke outdoor area, where the children can learn, play and grow through the seasons. Being part of the Prep School also means the children can enjoy woodland walks and nature trails across our rural site, as well as weekly swimming in our heated pool and sports using our hall, astro and pitches.
Pre Prep
The Pre-Prep and Nursery Department is a vibrant and engaging place for children aged 2 – 7. The welcoming and friendly environment, purpose-built buildings and idyllic walled garden offer a perfect nurturing environment full of opportunities to develop and extend your child’s interests, strengths and passions. They value the importance of developing the whole child, fostering ‘childhood’ and a deep ‘love of learning’. Traditional values are combined with a curriculum focused on high academic standards, to ensure every child reaches their potential. We aim to equip children with the skills and confidence they will need to succeed on whichever future path they choose. The inspiring and caring teachers are passionate about bringing learning to life, taking the children on a voyage of discovery and adventure. Seeing the children skip so happily down the path every morning is testament to how well our approach works.
Prep
Building on the strong foundations laid in the Pre-Prep, the pupils join in Year 3 and develop their independent thinking skills and a love of learning. An innovative and forward-thinking curriculum is delivered by talented, specialist teachers and we are extremely proud of the outstanding Common Entrance and Scholarship results achieved by our Year 8 leavers.Opportunities for the pupils are plentiful. We are committed to providing an all-round education that caters for many interests and skills - the academic, the musical, the artistic, the sporty, the creative, the technical and the dramatic.
Sporting Life
Sport is an integral part of school life and provides a platform for children to explore new challenges, discover hidden talents and ultimately have fun, whilst maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Sport at Handcross Park is not only competitive but inclusive. Through sport the pupils learn the importance of sportsmanship: how to win with grace and lose with humility (within a team and individual environment). All of the children play competitive sport from Year 3 through to Year 8 against other local prep and senior schools. Matches are played on Wednesday afternoons, and parents are always welcome to come and support the teams and join us for match tea.
Performing Arts
Pupils at Handcross Park are exposed to Music, Drama and Dance from an early age and enjoy performing in front of their peers and parents on a regular basis. Every child receives lessons each week in Music and Drama with the specialist teachers. Essential skills are developed, including singing, internalising rhythm, coordination, confidence and public speaking.
