Boundary Oak School is Independent Secondary school in Selective for kids aged 2 to 16 (Gender - 2 to 16 )
Boundary Oak sits in 30 acres of quintessentially English countryside and is steeped in a long and rich history. It’s an idyllic location for school life, a canvas which can only inspire, but against this backdrop, it is the people and their ethos to learning which makes the most difference to the children. The family ethos fosters a personal, tailored and exciting approach to education and to learning in the broadest sense. The Boundary Oak mantra is to strive to live life by the Seven Rs, to be: Respectful, Responsible, Reflective, Responsive, Resourceful, Resilient and Relentless. At Boundary Oak we see it as the responsibility not only to prepare our pupils for examinations, but also to prepare them for life. The pupils thrive within our nurturing family atmosphere, while a stimulating and exciting environment allows them to grow personally and develop a love of learning. A truly enriching education is about much more than academic achievement alone. It is also about developing a passion for learning, capacity for independent thinking, sound moral values, inherent self-confidence and a broad range of interests that extend beyond the classroom.
Early Years and Reception
The children have specialist teachers for French, PE, outdoor learning and music each week and have the opportunity of learning outside each day in their purpose-built play area which includes an assortment of outdoor resources to aid physical development. In addition, Little Acorns and Reception have their own secure outside learning area which includes a chicken coop, guinea pigs, growing stations and a mud kitchen.Reception should be seen as a transitional phase during which the foundations are established and a move towards the more structured approach to learning of the National Curriculum begins to take place. By the end of the Reception year most children will have completed the Early Learning goals and along with an increasingly structured timetable, they are ready to make their transition into Year 1.
Prep School, for 8-11 year olds
As the children enter our Prep School in Year 4, we aim to build on the foundation from Pre-Prep, continuing the implementation of our 7Rs. When entering the Prep school in Year 4, our children will continue to benefit from the stability of a class teacher who teaches them for Core and Humanities subjects (English, maths, science, geography, history, religious education, and computing). The children will also receive specialist teaching for French and Spanish, food and nutrition, music, drama, sport, and art. This continues into Year 5 within a mainly tutor-based setting.
Pre Prep
As the children transition into Pre-Prep (Years 1 to 3), they aim to provide each and every child with a foundation for their future and to create an environment which stimulates curiosity and is fun! With the implementation of our 7Rs and by following our broad and balanced curriculum, they support our pupils to become confident, independent and curious learners, who are caring members of the wider school community. During their time in Pre-Prep, the children will be taught by our highly experienced teachers, who are ably supported by our dedicated team of teaching assistants. They will broadly follow the National Curriculum which they adapt to ensure learning is about looking for answers, not simply learning answers. In addition, the children benefit from expertise provided by our specialist teachers in PE, art, French, music and outdoor learning and the sharing of specialist facilities with the Prep and Senior School.
Senior School
Boundary Oak Senior School is the perfect environment for your child, from the ages of 11 to 16, to explore and develop their potential as an individual. Life in the Senior School is busy, filled with academic purpose, extra-curricular activity and outdoor life. They also want them to be resilient, reflective and responsible learners. The classes are small yet there is a breadth of subjects inside and outside the classroom to allow pupils to have a tailored, fulfilling education. The broad and exciting curriculum on offer in our Prep department continues into the Senior School which begins in Year 7. The teaching staff represent some of the best in their field and as such they strive to ensure that each child reaches their academic potential successfully, while also enjoying their Senior School experience.
Co-Curricular
They encourage individuality and diversity in our Boundary Oak community and this is evidenced by the vast range of clubs, societies, activities and trips on offer – over 70 each term! The extensive co-curricular provision allows pupils to learn new skills and find their passion and is something we really encourage them to get involved in. This aids the young people to find out what really makes them tick and what brings them joy beyond academic study. The co-curricular offering is always growing and adapting as they aim for the pupils to be able to make the most of their time here.
School Sport
The role of our award winning sport department in the development of each pupil at Boundary Oak is a vital one and this is reflected both in the wide spectrum of sports and sporting activities on offer and the allocation of lessons within the timetable. The EYFS and Key Stage One schemes of work focus on fundamental skills which promote physical literacy. Lessons are skills-based and develop core aspects; agility, balance & co-ordination, gymnastics, dance and swimming.
Drama
Boundary Oak excels at instilling confidence and resilience in its pupils by providing multiple opportunities to perform on stage. Drama is a compulsory subject of the school curriculum and all pupils throughout the school partake in weekly lessons. They not only have specialist drama teachers, offering additional individual drama peri lessons for those who would like to, they also boast the own purpose-built theatre.
Music
They firmly believe that every pupil can make music in some form and that music can bring real joy to listeners and performers alike. It can also be a great outlet for emotion and creativity, allowing thoughts and feelings, as well as talent, to be explored. At Boundary Oak, the opportunities for making music are endless. Each year brings new and exciting musical ensembles and performances, festivals, musical theatre productions, orchestral concerts, competitions and, more recently, ‘virtual’ rock band performances. The talented, experienced specialists in the music department nurture talent, supporting and encouraging pupils to have the confidence to make a debut performance or the skills to take music grading examinations.
