Meoncross School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 3 to 16 (Gender - 3 to 16 )
Meoncross School is a leading independent day school, and a very proud through school – enabling children to start their educational journey at 2.5 years, and continuing through until Year 11. They really are the only school you will ever need.Meoncross is a school that consistently achieves high academic results. This success is linked not only to small class sizes and highly trained and talented staff, but is also the result of a strong focus on personalised learning, which allows every student to realise their full potential, regardless of ability. Whilst academic excellence is a top priority, they also passionately believe that emotional wellbeing and happiness are crucial to educational success.Throughout the last two years, Meoncross School provided certainty, consistency and structure at a time when all were hard to come by. Through our Online Learning provisions, we ensured that pupils received a continuous and uninterrupted education.
Early Years
The Early Years journey begins in the Nursery for children aged 2.5 years. The Nursery provides a warm and friendly introduction to our youngest children set in a bespoke, stimulating and nurturing environment at the heart of the school.Early Years events familiarises the Nursery children with the Infant classrooms and teachers, helping them to understand better their role in our school community, whilst the annual Nativity and Sports Day help to build their confidence and encourage them to try new things. They take the time to know every child, their strengths and weaknesses, guided by the bond they make with their key person. We work in partnership with home, and have an open door policy for parents to talk to staff, with parents’ evenings every term and daily contact maintained through a diary system.
Infants
At Meoncross they feel it is crucial to offer a broad, balanced and immersive curriculum, rich in opportunities for each individual child. English, mathematics and science form the core subjects underpinning the curriculum in the Infants, with creativity and the Arts continuing to play an integral part in our children’s learning.English and mathematics take place every day, with daily reading opportunities built into the curriculum. This along with a highly effective phonics and spelling programme ensures rapid progress and access to our wide-ranging curriculum. Mathematics is underpinned by the White Rose scheme of work, which ensures a consistent and thorough approach to all things mathematical, with an emphasis placed on fluency, reasoning and problem solving , whilst embedding fundamental maths concepts. The children are supported and encouraged to use equipment to show their working and to use mathematical language to articulate their thinking.
Junior
Children on average make greater progress in the Juniors than they would in other settings, nurtured by our individual approach to every child, regular assessments and tracking of their academic development, opportunities for growth and leadership and the breadth of our curriculum. The Junior curriculum ensures continuity from the Infants, and the emphasis moves further towards the children becoming more independent and reflective learners. The study of a variety of core, traditional texts challenge the children to become more familiar with a variety of different authors. The skills of inference and deduction become ever more prominent as children become more independent readers. Mathematics continues to be underpinned by skills such as problem solving and enquiry, but discovering and using a variety of different methods of calculation play a key part in lessons, as well as investigation into every day problem solving.
Upper School
The Upper School curriculum has been lovingly crafted to be broad, creative, inspiring and challenging. All classes are taught by highly skilled and dedicated secondary subject specialists, who tailor their approach to the unique needs of their learners. They work hard to be the best teachers they can be and they make use of variety of inspiring teaching approaches that help foster a lifelong love of learning, whilst maximising progress.During Year 9, pupils begin their transition to the GCSE curriculum in the core subjects – English, Mathematics and Science – and before they make their final options choices, every child is able to experience the full range of subjects they offer, which encompasses a wide range of linguistic, cultural, creative and scientific subjects. As well as their options choices, all pupils continue to study English, Maths, Science, PSHE and Core PE during Years 10 and 11.
Co-curricular
Educational visits are linked to the curriculum and take place during the school day. Destinations can be local, such as Reception visiting Stubbington Library, an RS visit to Portsmouth Synagogue and a Year 3 viewing at Southampton Art Gallery. Further afield, trips take pupils to other parts of Hampshire such as Astronomy to Winchester Science Centre and Duke of Edinburgh students to the New Forest, and into nearby counties, with Year 7 Geography students going to the Living Rainforest in Berkshire. Day trips to London take place, for instance for Psychology to visit the Freud Museum. In addition, residential visits are organised once a year for Years 4 to 7 to activity centres from the Isle of Wight to the Brecon Beacons whilst the annual overseas trip is open to all Upper School pupils and in recent years has visited the Somme, Seville and Rome.
Clubs and Societies
Clubs and societies run throughout the year, offering our pupils many opportunities to broaden their horizons by trying new things, discovering hidden talents and becoming intellectually and culturally curious beyond the curriculum. Extracurricular activities also offer pupils the chance to socialise with their peers whilst taking part in an enjoyable event.Across the school they provide a breadth of activities offered on a weekly basis at lunchtimes and after school, many of which change termly, and pupils are encouraged to participate in at least one club per week.A number of our extra-curricular activities are sports based and seasonal; namely professional tennis coaching, football, netball shooting, hockey, rugby, cricket and rounders.

Scholarship
Scholarships are an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and reward excellence. These awards identify attainment, ability and aptitude and are designed to attract high quality candidates. Scholarships are awarded to pupils to celebrate their commitment to a course of study and excellence within that subject. Awarding a scholarship is the opportunity to publicly recognise the combination of talent and application. Students who demonstrate skill, aptitude and passion in a particular field become one of a small number of Meoncross School scholars. First and foremost this title is an honour and with it comes responsibility, kudos and opportunity. Scholars set the bar and then seek to raise it. They embody the school values, are role models and ambassadors.
