Bute House Preparatory School for Girls is Independent Primary school in Hammersmith and Fulham for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Girls )
Welcome to Bute House, a dynamic, exciting, rounded and rigorous environment in which girls flourish and thrive and, most importantly, have a great deal of fun. They wrap this up in a pastoral blanket of care and support; these children are being educated to work in a world which, in some ways, we cannot imagine yet.
Reception (EYFS)
The girls begin in Reception during the year in which they turn five. The class is formed of girls whose names were drawn in the ballot, and siblings of girls already in the school. The girls are taught by our Reception teacher and one full time and one part time Teaching Assistant. In Reception, the girls follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum where every girl’s individual needs are closely monitored and catered for.
Years 1 and 2 (KS1)
Throughout Years 1 and 2, our girls move up with the same class friends that they made in Reception, building upon the firm foundations of the years before. Dynamic teachers deliver exciting, well-planned and differentiated lessons using the latest technology and providing the girls with a happy and relaxed, yet challenging, environment in which to work, play and learn. Classrooms are light, bright, and full of appropriate up-to-date resources and books. Each room has easy access to the garden and playground.
Years 3 and 4 (Lower KS2)
Following a 7+ assessment, we welcome approximately forty new girls to Bute House in Year 3. The new girls join our existing pupils and are then divided into three equally sized mixed-ability classes. We go to great lengths to ensure that this transition is smooth, and we recognise the importance of sensitive care for all the girls at this time. The girls will have already enjoyed meeting each other at our “Welcome to Bute House” workshop day and at the New Girls’ Tea, and in many cases have started to build friendships through holiday play dates.
Years 5 and 6 (Upper KS2)
In Year 6, the focus in the Autumn term is on preparation for the 11+ examinations, which take place in January. The Year 6 team carefully prepare the girls for the forthcoming examinations. The staff work hard to ensure that the happy, supportive and caring atmosphere which is central to the ethos of the School continues, despite external pressures. All parents meet with the Head during the Autumn term of Year 6 to discuss future schools. Each girl is assigned to another member of staff who offers additional support for the girls at that stage
Clubs
At Bute House, they offer an extensive range of clubs during lunch time and after school. They give the girls an opportunity to develop a talent or discover a new skill. Girls from Year 1 onwards also have an hour of club time once a week on Wednesday afternoons from 2.30-3.30pm. There are a selection of clubs for those girls in the Lower School, and this expands further in Year 3. The girls have a choice termly and can include: Spanish crafts, debating, art and craft, computing, cookery, scrap bookmaking, drama, knitting, yoga, friendship bracelets, gardening, and puzzles.
Individual Music Tuition
Learning an instrument, either in or out of school, is highly valued and supported at Bute House. Weekly individual instrumental tuition is provided in our well-furnished rooms by a team of experienced and skilled peripatetic music teachers. There is also a wide variety of solo performance opportunities, exam preparation and a lively ensemble programme. The instruments they offer music tuition for include: violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, piano, saxophone, singing, guitar, drums, recorder and keyboard. We also offer individual and group music theory sessions.
Selection Criteria: Selective
They do not believe in assessments at the 4+ level and instead run a ballot for 22 places at Reception entry. Our main intake is into Year 3 via a 7+ assessment for a further 40-45 places. The girls are selected after a thorough 7+ assessment, including interviews and group exercises to model a normal school day.
