Sacred Heart High School, Hammersmith is leading State Secondary school for kids age 11 to 18 years (Gender - Girls)
Sacred Heart in Hammersmith maintains strong links with the Society, whose unique philosophy and Catholic ethos permeate all they do. They value intellect and the results, placing them in the top 3% nationally, speak for themselves - but Sacred Heart Education is about far more than that. Sacred Heart Education is rooted in the importance of relationships; recognition of the individual; building social awareness and the importance acting on it. Kindness and responsibility is at the heart of this, both towards one another and to others beyond the own community. They educate to develop students' recognition of their own worth and to ensure that they leave school with a sense of their own responsibility to stand up for others. We prepare students to become positive role models, agents of change and leaders who will transform the world we live in, for the betterment of all.
Lower School (KS3)
'When I first came to Sacred Heart they thought it was big and scary and that they would never get used to it. We older girls know how the younger girls feel, and really enjoy helping them to settle in. They are a community. They do care. This is a nice place to be. It’s hard work, but it is a great place to get the work done. The big bonus is that we enjoy the time here' The Lower School represents Years 7, 8, and 9 or Key Stage 3 (KS3) at Sacred Heart. They understand the transfer to secondary school can bring with it new challenges but also many exciting new opportunities. Rest assured, once students begin their secondary school journey in year seven, they will receive all the help they need to settle into this new environment.
Upper School (KS4)
The Upper School and Key Stage 4 (KS4) begins when students enter Year 10. By then, they are familiar with the every- day routine of the school, as well as the ethos and values the school instils. Their friendship groups have broadened and they have had the opportunity to try a variety of clubs and societies. Most of their GCSE courses start in Year 10 and culminate in exams at the end of Year 11. The Upper School is a very exciting time for our students. They have their first taste of public exams and they experience a vast array of opportunities. It is a time of change and all about making choices. Students receive a lot of support and guidance to help choose them decide on what GCSE options to pursue.
Drama
Students attend up to 10 pieces of live theatre a year. This includes a range of West End, major theatre companies and fringe theatre performances of both classic and contemporary work all around London. Live theatre forms the basis of everything taught in the classroom and is a living (albeit ephemeral) example of the theory taught in class. How can you cook if you have never been in a kitchen? The same theory applies to Drama – how can you make theatre if you don’t go to the theatre?
Clubs and Societies
They want students to have fun in their recreational time, while occupying themselves in worthwhile pursuits. The clubs and societies offer this, and much more besides, including opportunities to socialise with students from other year groups, to organise events and to take on leadership roles.
Music
The music department provides all students the opportunity to express and interpret music in their own way. They are able to share and celebrate their achievements and participate in, as well as direct various music ensembles. All students are encouraged to regularly attend concerts, recitals, masterclasses and workshops to enable them to meet other musicians and other leading professionals.
Sport
Physical Education supports the curriculum’s vision for our young people of enabling students to become confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners. They fully support the development of leadership and teamwork skills and will support pupils in gaining NGB accredited coaching awards where possible. They then encourage students to transfer this knowledge to other learning areas e.g. working with groups in a leadership role in the school setting, or outside of school in sports clubs or community groups.
