Calder House School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 5 to 13 (Gender - 5 to 13 )

Calder House is a small, co-educational day school for children aged between seven and 13 who, for various reasons, are out of step with their potential.  Founded in 1995, they are recognised by the Department for Education as an independent school specially organised to make educational provision for pupils with  specific learning difficulties (Dyslexia and Dyspraxia). They offer a friendly, non-competitive environment in which children with dyslexia and other specific learning/language difficulties are encouraged to enjoy school while developing the skills they need to successfully return to mainstream education.

Facilities

Curriculum
Calder House strives to unlock the potential of children with dyslexia, dyspraxia or dyscalculia who are struggling in mainstream education. Literacy and numeracy are the focus of the morning lessons and it is during these morning classes that all remedial support takes place. But, important as these lessons are, our school is about more than teaching children to read, write and calculate. When the pupils return to mainstream education, it is vital that they have as much knowledge and information at their command as their classmates. To this end Calder House follows the National Curriculum in full at Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 for Year 7. So, while they concentrate on reading, writing, spelling and maths skills in the morning, afternoons are spent studying history, geography, science, religious studies, information technology and spoken Latin in small age-appropriate classes. Classrooms are arranged to encourage a quiet working atmosphere and minimise distractions. And, as one would expect, the school is equipped with all the modern teaching aids including computers, a networked whiteboard and audio-visual equipment.
