Centre Academy London has a mission: to provide excellence in education for SEN students.This is the commitment and lies at the very heart of the school. They seek to build holistic, personalised curricula for the students by integrated therapy together with high academic expectations.Through experience we have found that when a student is in the wrong academic environment their academic potential can be masked and obscured. At Centre Academy London, however, the students often have choices available to them that were previously discounted, even made impossible.And in addition to the academic possibilities, they prepare our students to deal with real life challenges. They support them at each transition level, leading to college or university or life skills programmes—and ultimately to the world beyond.The journey starts when a boy or girl enters CA London. Each presents with a unique profile over and above their learning challenges. The graduated approach means that our assessment, planning and review cycle help the student to develop strategies and coping skills. These will help guide them and provide the right blend of academic opportunity suited to their unique learning needs and learning styles.
CURRICULUM
The key to success at the school is the ability to work closely with all children so that we may understand their learning patterns and needs. This informs the planning of a pathway for each student as they move through the school. It enables us to plan and achieve successful outcomes for the student at whichever level is appropriate for them. The programmes are also diverse and varied, despite our small size. For all Key Stage 3 and Foundation students, for example, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy are an integral part of our curriculum. And depending on the changing needs and requirements of a student, the provision is adjusted accordingly to ensure that the needs of the whole youngster are addressed.Academics at CA London are broad and varied. Fundamentally, they follow the National Curriculum for all the students at Key Stage 3. From Key Stage 4 students then follow one of two pathways: the Foundation Learning Pathway or the GCSE/High School Diploma pathway.
CLUBS AND TRAVEL
As you will understand, school is not simply a place that focuses exclusively on all things academic. Indeed, there are social and related elements that are fundamental to the school experience, for these augment the academic elements while also providing the student with valuable opportunities to discover and to explore other diverse interests.At CA London, we offer a range of clubs and activities that are designed to enable students to broaden their interests and to hone specific skills and talents. These change termly and have included Art, Drama, Media, Film, Code Breaking, Book, ICT, Games and Gardening Clubs. They are, moreover, always on the lookout for additional clubs and activities, and our students are encouraged to make suggestions directly to Mentors and teachers, and also through their own Student Council.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
CA London is not only a community in and of itself; it is also part of the greater London community. Much of the spirit of the school—its ethos—asks students to be particularly sensitive and compassionate towards other people.In this regard, all our students participate in various community service projects. These frequently involve fund-raising on behalf of a local charity, sponsoring charitable initiatives and donating gifts to needy children at holiday times. It is important to note that as a school, they frequently look to our students to take the initiative in the search for charitable pursuits—and, of course, to lead the all-school effort to translate plans into action.
