Chartfield School is an independent primary school in the town of Westgate-on-Sea on the north Kentish coast, catering for boys and girls aged between three and eleven years. The current school building, in which they have resided since our move in 1958, is a converted residential property opposite a park.They offer a traditional, child-orientated education and expect high level of behaviour, teaching children to respect one another. Chartfield’s ethos is every child matters, and working in coordination with one another, staff and parents alike can ensure that this goal is reaching, thus providing the family atmosphere for which Chartfield prides itself. Chartfield’s aims are to develop and maintain the individual child’s lively and enquiring mind, to allow each child to develop to his or her fullest potential and to give self-confidence to each pupil and encourage them to acquire knowledge and skills.
 

Facilities

Kindergarten
At the lower end of the school, teaching is broken up into three distinct characteristics of effective learning. These are: Playing and exploring, Active Learning, Creating and Thinking Critically. Within these characteristics, there are other, interrelated areas of learning and development designed to further a child’s understanding and self-confidence within the learning environment, and prepare them for the specific areas of learning that will encounter as they progress through the school.

Transition
With the exception of Numeracy and Literacy, there is a two year cycle of work for all the other subjects covered. These include; Science, History, Geography, Art and Design, Religious Education, Personal, Social and Health Education, Music, Information and Communications Technology

Things to note

Art Club
Children learn to use different types of materials in various ways to create works of art.

Spanish Club
In addition to learning French during as part of their school curriculum, children learn to speak common Spanish phrases and use vocabulary, such as greetings, describing colours, or counting, all in a fun way.

First Aid Club
The children learn all areas of first aid, from CPR, how to deal with burns, how to treat cuts and tend to broken limbs until professional help can arrive. One of the students recently put the skills she’d learned in First Aid Club into practice when aiding a parent who had suffered burns. First Aid Club is taught by serving paramedics.

Football Club
The skills of kicking and controlling a football, as well as passing, are taught, and then the children are offered the opportunity to try these out in small matches.

Choir & Ocarina Club 
Choir and Ocarina Club take place during lunchtime, allowing the children to sing as a group, or learn to play the Ocarina.

Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club begins at 7.45am each morning, running until 8.30am. It costs £2, and includes a selection of food to help get the children ready for the day ahead.
