Christ's Hospital

Description

Christ's Hospital is Independent Secondary school in Selective for kids aged 11 to 18.

Facilities

  • It is vital that Christ’s Hospital’s expansive site, historic buildings, and new facilities are upheld to the highest standard, to ensure the School can continue to offer the best all-round experience to our pupils.
  • The Christ’s Hospital theatre has recently undergone essential maintenance thanks to the generous support of donors. Completed in 1974 to a design by the renowned architectural practice Howell Killick Partridge and Amis, it is now Grade II* listed. Important issues such as accessibility, fire safety, foyer capacity, general decoration and technical infrastructure were attended to and improved rendering the Theatre fit for purpose for years to come, providing a first class facility not only for pupil performers, but also for children who might become interested in the technical side of theatre.

Features

Things to note

  • Music is the beating heart of this remarkable school. Christ’s Hospital is perhaps the only school in the world where every pupil hears live music played or sung by their peers on six days a week.
  • Sports facilities are also available.

Selection Criteria: Selective

Admission Details

Year 7 Entry Requirements: As a guide, children entering at age 11 into Year 7 need to show evidence of academic potential, working towards the higher end of the ability range in both the Mathematics and English National Curriculum syllabuses (i.e. predicted more than 100 in the Key Stage 2 tests and ‘working above the expected standard’). Assessment process for a bursary place is in two stages. An Initial Assessment in October (just before October half-term) that uses computer based tests (verbal, quantitative, non-verbal and spatial reasoning). Those children who are successful in the Initial Assessment will be invited to Residential Assessment in January (just before term starts). The children stay overnight, have the opportunity to experience boarding life and take part in assessment tasks, the children are being assessed not only on their academic potential but also on their suitability to board.

Year 9 Entry Requirements: Admission in Year 9 is based on own assessment process. For those Year 9 entrants offering Common Entrance they would suggest a candidate should be working towards an average of about 60% at Common Entrance. Candidates for entry at age 13 into Year 9 who do not require a bursary and are coming from independent prep schools may choose to apply to be tested at age 11 and have their places deferred.

Year 12 Entry Requirements: All applicants should be on course to achieve a minimum of four level 7 grades and four level 6 grades at GCSE. Following own assessment process, offers are made which are conditional on achieved performance at GCSE. They recommend candidates should achieve level 7 in the subjects most relevant to their subject choices at A level.

Additional Information: In all cases reports will be requested from a candidate’s current head teacher and it is recommended that parents contact their child’s current school early in the admissions process to ask about their child’s predicted grades.
