Cranbrook School

Cranbrook School, Waterloo Rd, Cranbrook TN17 3JD, United Kingdom
11-18 Years

Description

Cranbrook School is leading State Secondary school in Cranbrook. This is a Selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Mixed

Cranbrook is a genuinely unique place. It is a co-educational grammar school in the heart of the glorious Wealden countryside. It is one of only a small number of state boarding schools in the UK. And it is an ancient school, founded in 1518 and given its royal charter by Elizabeth I in 1574. The students thrive thanks to the breadth and challenge of our curriculum, and our emphasis on growing character as much as minds. We balance a traditional academic curriculum with a busy co-curriculum of competitive sport, music, drama, CCF, DofE and student-led societies. Opportunities for independent thought and leadership are many – particularly for senior pupils, who benefit from the social and academic buzz to be found in our new Sixth Form Centre. Our academic results are consistently among the best for state schools in the country, and our leavers head to a variety of top destinations, including Oxbridge and many Russell Group universities.

Facilities

KS3 Curriculum
The core purpose at Key Stage 3 is to deliver an engaging and challenging curriculum through outstanding teaching and learning. We aim to instill independence, resilience and aspiration, underpinned by core knowledge, enabling students to be confident and ready to meet the demands of a broad GCSE curriculum.

KS4 Curriculum
The core purpose at Key Stage 4 is to support each student to achieve the very best they can in GCSE qualifications, whilst supporting their social, moral, spiritual and cultural (SMSC) development through an extensive tutorial, PSHE, sports and co-curricular offer. We strive to instil independence, resilience and aspiration, underpinned by core knowledge, enabling students to achieve their very best in a range of GCSE subjects, conforming to the expectations of the EBacc.

KS5 (Sixth Form Curriculum)
The core purpose at Key Stage 5 is to support students to move on to their future pathways including routes into higher education and beyond. Complemented by a broader curriculum and co-curriculum, our students take three or four A levels, delivered by outstanding practitioners who aim to inspire students to be confident, resilient, and independent young adults. At Cranbrook, we are not only focused on students as learners, but as people whose mental wellbeing, physical health and wider knowledge of the world must be nurtured.

Boarding
The top priority is that your children are happy, healthy and well cared for – allowing them to achieve their full potential academically, socially and physically. They are also careful to integrate our boarders with their day-student counterparts, ensuring that they feel part of the Cranbrook community from day one.\ When your child joins the school, he or she will be in the care of a resident Head of House, overseen by the Director of Boarding, assisted by tutors and matrons. The House team monitor all aspects of a student’s progress throughout their career and will liaise with you closely during this time.

Things to note

Extra-Curricular
At Cranbrook we believe in stretching our students’ minds inside and outside the classroom – ensuring that their formative experiences are not just confined to a whiteboard, textbook or computer screen. With that in mind, we invest heavily in a broad range of extra-curricular activities. The core programme embraces CCF, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, public speaking and community & charity initiatives.  On top of these, numerous societies cater for student interests outside teaching hours. These include book clubs, dance classes, all forms of performance arts, young enterprise groups and environmental studies as well as long-time favourites such as chess, robotics, riding and cookery.
