Dulwich Prep Cranbrook is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 2 to 13 (Gender - 2 to 13 )
The school is a beautiful campus in 50 acres of stunning Kent countryside. The facilities are superb, allowing our children to explore, experiment and excel wherever their passions and their imaginations take them. But a school is so much more than a collection of buildings. They hope that you will get to know our fantastic team a little better and discover the amazing opportunities and experiences from which all the children benefit.
Nash House (Nursery & Reception)
Life at Nash House is all about nurturing happy, independent children who love learning and feel confident expressing themselves. We make learning fun by stimulating our children’s natural curiosity, encouraging them to take risks and helping them to master fundamental skills. And we do it all with as much laughter as possible.Every class has a qualified teacher and teaching assistant who know their children – and their families – inside out. They tailor their teaching to suit the needs of each child, creating an exciting, encouraging environment where education becomes a joy. Each day is thoughtfully structured with a lively mix of teacher-led and child-initiated activities, so each child gets the maximum out of every moment.
Little Stream (Years 1-4)
Little Stream is a very special place. We kindle curiosity, encourage inquiry and capture imaginations, giving our children a life-long love of learning in all its forms. As well as gently priming their minds for the future we also encourage all our children to be compassionate and support each other, so they have the confidence to take risks, embrace opportunity and enjoy their journey of self-discovery.Getting these fundamentals right is important because the way that children see themselves and each other has far-reaching implications. Everything we do, especially our highly supportive pastoral care, is ultimately about helping our children grow to become happy, confident individuals. Time and time again we hear how much the older children enjoy acting as mentors to younger children, speaking at the school council, greeting visitors in their class and taking an active role in their tribes – all because they believe in themselves. What we’re talking about here is emotional intelligence, something we carefully nurture in all the children throughout their journey in Little Stream.
Upper School (Years 5-8)
Upper School is a vibrant and compassionate community where children are encouraged and supported to be the very best they can be. The breadth and depth of what we offer at Upper School is quite breath taking, and we support and encourage our children to fully immerse themselves in school life and take full advantage of what is on offer – from Brass Band breakfasts, Coding Club at lunchtime through to Art Scholars’ Club after school, as well as the camaraderie and fun of boarding.
Senior School (Years 7-11)
Dulwich Prep Cranbrook is launching an exciting expansion to include Years 9, 10 and 11, to offer families an academically ambitious, forward-looking, co-educational day school from Nursery through to GCSE.The Dulwich senior school will give students the opportunity to study a wide range of GCSEs, supported by exceptional pastoral care and a real focus on the individual. We will offer a wide range of GCSE options for the students. There will be the core subjects, which are the bedrock of a rigorous education – English Language and Literature, Maths and the three Sciences. There will be the opportunity to support these with History, Geography, French, Spanish, Latin, ICT (fundamental in 21st century), and RS, Philosophy and Ethics.
Art
They want to inspire in our children a desire to explore and experiment, to delight in the communicative power of different media and discover for themselves the joy of mastering different techniques. All our children, including those in Nash House, have art lessons with the specialist teachers – instilling an early appreciation of art and a belief that they are all artists in their own right.
Drama
The dynamic and diverse drama curriculum is designed to capture imaginations, overcome inhibitions and encourage self-expression. We give our children the freedom and self-confidence to work collaboratively, think creatively, and surprise and delight each other – while thoroughly enjoying every second of their time with us.We teach an exciting range of performance and dramatisation techniques, from the joy of movement to music for the youngest children, through to characterisation and production and direction for the older children. They pride ourselves in the extraordinary range of our drama, from Shakespeare and Rogers and Hammerstein to our infamous Schools Got Talent show, where anything can – and frequently does – happen.
Music
Perhaps they’re ever so slightly biased, but for them music is the ultimate subject, touching on art, science and psychology to stimulate the mind and satisfy the soul. As well as being proven to enhance cognitive development, music helps children understand their emotions and express themselves, while developing confidence, teamwork and listening skills – all without seeming to. There really is no subject like it.With a glowing introduction like that it’s no surprise that at Dulwich they place a huge emphasis on music, with all the children taught by a specialist music teacher from the very start of Nursery. The accent at this stage is on experiencing the magic of music through singing, listening and exploring different genres.
Sport
They want the children to love sport and relish their PE lessons as much as we do. The benefits of sport and being active are undisputed so they look to awaken in each child an enthusiasm for physical activity, develop their confidence, see their own potential and nurture a lifelong love of sport.Firstly we seek to make sport fun and integral to daily life. They celebrate participation, enthusiasm, communication, team work and fair play as well as the physical skills learnt for each sport. And we make sure that every child experiences the pride of representing their school on the sports field. All Little Stream children in Years 3 & 4 play every school fixture, and it isn’t unheard of to have every child in Upper School representing us on a given day.
Clubs
They offer a huge choice of clubs and activities because we see this as another important and exciting opportunity for children to discover what they love, revel in their passions and stretch themselves. We aim to create a balance that inspires participation and develops talent. The activities take place before and after school, and during break times. The clubs vary each term and are influenced by the children themselves. Pop-up clubs are a regular feature, sometimes based on a season or as a request from the children. The Dulwich Inspires! programme on a Wednesday afternoon gives all Upper School the chance to try something new which can start a whole lifelong passion.
