Early Years
For some, our school day starts with Breakfast Club, where busy parents can drop their children off with us to enjoy a simple, healthy breakfast and fun with friends before the school day starts. The morning’s lessons focus on the core skills of Maths and English; from Year 1 to Year 4 these lessons are taught by form teachers who know the children well so they can get the very best from each of them and in Year 5 and 6 specialist teachers teach these core subjects. After break time the foundation subjects are taught and the specialist French, Music, Drama and PE teachers nurture the children’s skills and passion. A nutritious hot lunch is home cooked on school premises for all children providing a nourishing, healthy and balanced diet for all.
Pre Prep (Key Stage 1)
Children in KS1 delight in learning creatively through our vibrant and memorable curriculum. They have exciting new topics each term which are tailored to the pupils’ interests, enabling them to lead the way in their learning. The two-year topic cycle across Years One and Two currently includes ‘The Great Fire of London’, ‘Changes within Living Memory’, ‘Famous for More Than 5 Minutes’, ‘Oceans and Seas’, ‘Far and Near’ (a local study and Africa and geographical skills. The dedicated staff teach these topics across the curriculum and recognise the importance of giving learning real-life context and making it fun!
Prep (Key Stage 2)
The pupils are encouraged to question, discuss and reason across all areas of the curriculum as they begin to develop into more independent and responsible learners. Their natural curiosity, alongside a challenging curriculum enables each and every pupil to make progress. The small classes ensure that everyone receives a generous amount of individual attention and teachers are committed to bringing out the best in every pupil. In Years 3 and 4, the pupils continue to develop a love of learning so that each one can realise their potential. We encourage curiosity and perseverance so that they develop enquiring minds and a greater independence in their learning. They promote a caring attitude towards others.
After School Clubs and Activities
After the lessons end, the vibrant and diverse extra-curricular program kicks in with a termly timetable of sporting, artistic, educational and, above all, fun activities for children to choose from. We run a variety of exciting, interest-led and seasonal clubs each term at Crown House, giving the children the chance to form friendships and links with others across different form groups. The clubs are planned and run by our in-house teaching staff alongside independent coaches and carefully selected external providers and are designed to support the pupils in taking their interests from the school day forward or to discover something new to pursue.
Drama
At Crown House drama is a dynamic subject which introduces every child to a world of wonder and play. It encourages them to continue questioning, exploring and teasing out new ideas and ways of living and thinking. Drama at Crown House is about creating and making, exploring and responding in the search for the true selves and for meaningful connections with others and the world around them. In drama they endeavour to equip the pupils with the skills to explore the subject in their future schooling without losing sight of its value for their development.
Music
At Crown House they encourage pupils to acquire a passion for music through enjoyment and fun at all levels throughout the school. Music plays an integral part in the life of all pupils at Crown House and our highly qualified team of peripatetic teachers allow children to take individual tuition at school in Voice, Keyboard, Drums, Guitar and Strings.
