Dulwich College is a 2–19 independentday and boarding school for boys in DulwichLondon.

Facilities

  • The campuses allow students to access world-class facilities, that includes but not limited to libraries, swimming pools, gymnasiums, state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre, science and IT laboratories, suites of music and art rooms, design and technology workshops, SE21 area, roof-top gardens, gymnasiums, dining rooms and coffee shops.
  • Every classroom at our schools is spacious, bright, ventilated and well furnished.
  • The purpose- built, modern Junior School provides excellent teaching facilities for this age group. In addition, the boys can access the fantastic facilities available on the wider campus.
  • During their Games and PE lessons, boys make full use of the extensive playing fields, astroturf pitches and the Sports Centre (which includes a 25m swimming pool).
  • Boys have timetabled computing lessons which are taught in our own Junior School computing suite.
  • In addition the large, well-equipped Art and DT rooms enable us to plan ambitious and adventurous tasks and activities in this area of the curriculum.
  • The Junior School science lab, a dedicated lab within the new Laboratory block, means that all boys undertake a superb science curriculum with full experiments from Year 3.
  • Junior School library provides a bright, stimulating environment for the boys to come and read or to carry out research.
  • The school hall is the main meeting place for events such as assemblies, informal concerts, visiting theatre groups or author visits.

Things to note

  • With over 70 clubs, activities and ensembles taking place each week, both at lunchtimes and after school, there is something on offer for every boy.  
  • The boys have the opportunities for a great deal of Drama and Music both inside and outside the curriculum.
  • Boys from all years take part in an enormous number of trips and outings. Some, such as theatre visits, are evening activities while others take place at the weekends or during the holidays. 
  • Scouting caters for boys from Year 6 up to Year 13.

Admission Details

Kindergarten (Age 18 months to 2 years entry): Places in the Kindergarten are limited and waiting lists are therefore short. Offering takes place throughout January and February prior to the year of entry. Places are offered strictly in order of when children are registered and each year they typically offer:

  • Toddler Room – 14 full-time equivalent places
  • Duckling Room – an additional 8 full-time equivalent places

Years 3, 4 and 5 entry: The main point of entry into the Junior School is at age 7 (Year 3) when they have some 40 - 45 places available (13 - 15 boys in each of the three forms). They have eight to twelve places for entry into Year 4 (age 8) and eight to ten in Year 5 (age 9). For more information CLICK HERE.

Year 7 entry: Around 70 boys join the Lower School into Year 7 (age 11) each academic year from a wide selection of primary schools and independent schools. In addition, boys from Dulwich College Junior School move up into Year 7, making a year group total of around 125 boys. For more information CLICK HERE.

Year 9 entry: Each academic year around 90 boys join the Middle School into Year 9 (age 13). In addition, 125 boys join the year group from Lower School, making a total of around 210 boys. 60 of these places are given to boys who sit the ISEB pre-test when they are in Year 6 at prep schools. Year 12 entry: Each academic year, around 35 new boys enter the Upper School into Year 12 (aged 16 plus). The great majority of these are international boarders who join the boys moving up from Year 11, making a year group of around 250 students, divided into 23 forms. For more information CLICK HERE.

Scholarships

Academic Scholarships: For entry to the Junior School (Year 3), Lower School (Year 7) and Middle School (Year 9) Academic Scholarships are awarded to those boys who perform exceptionally well and score the highest grades in their examination and interview. All boys who sit the entrance examinations are automatically considered for an academic scholarship; Scholarships are not means-tested. Scholarships range in value from 10% to one third of tuition fees. 

Music, Art and Sports Scholarships: External applicants for Music, Art and Sports Scholarships are required to meet the academic requirements of the College at all points of entry. Candidates are required to write, in their own words, a short paragraph about their work, artistic interests and exhibitions they have recently visited. The assessment for the Art Scholarship is intended to discover artistic ability and exceptional potential. The successful candidate is likely to be one who, besides showing promise, is able to demonstrate that art is a predominant interest in his leisure time. Accordingly, candidates are required to submit a digital portfolio which can include a range of drawings, paintings, photography, animation and/or film and photographs of three dimensional work.
