Facilities

Nursery and Early years
Oakfield Nursery (2+) and Lower Foundation (3+) are places where early learning is promoted through a series of carefully selected activities that build the foundations for a lifetime of learning. Children are allocated a key person when they join who will be responsible for maintaining a development record of each child's progress. All equipment and activities are chosen to ensure appropriate development in all key areas. There are designated areas for structured play, imaginative play in the home corner and a messy craft area. The aim for each child is that they will become the very best that they can be, both inside and outside the classroom. We believe that our high level of care, challenge and support will ensure the happiest and most successful start on every child’s journey through formal education.

Pre Prep
Pre Prep encompasses children in Upper Foundation & Year 1 (ages 4-6), gradually introducing them into formal school life and laying the groundwork for the skills and knowledge that will see them go from strength to strength. They pursue a teaching approach to inspire and enthuse; promoting social connections, building confidence and raising self-esteem. This enables children to grow in independence and develop knowledge, skills and understanding. Staff invest a huge amount of time in getting to know the children as individuals with unique interests, aptitudes and learning styles.  Activities are planned carefully to ensure that all children make progress and develop enthusiasm, a sense of enquiry and a lifelong love of learning. Our desire is that our children will learn to think for themselves, become independent and grow in self-awareness and concern for others.

Prep
The Prep building is home to years 2-6 (aged 6-11) with a focus on enriched learning experiences across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 so they are well-placed on their way to 11+.They offer a fully-rounded education including the core subjects of English and Mathematics and STEM, excellent provision in creative and expressive arts, as well as specialist teaching in Spanish, Music and PE. Our diverse, innovative and broad-based curriculum thoroughly prepares pupils for the transition to their preferred destinations at 11+.

Features

Things to note

Clubs and Activities
They offer a wide range of inspiring clubs and activities to all children in Lower Foundation and above which cater to a wide array of passions and interests. These clubs are run by both Oakfield staff and external professionals at lunchtimes and after school. The clubs offered are changed every term so children can try out lots of different activities through the year. We encourage pupils to engage with this incredible co-curricular programme and take advantage of the opportunity to supplement their learning and develop their burgeoning talents.

Sport
Sport and physical education develops children's skills and understanding so they can perform with increasing confidence and competence in a range of activities. These include squads in the following sports; Football, Gymnastics, Swimming, Hockey, Netball and Cross Country Running and Athletics.

Music
During curriculum music lessons in the classroom, theory and history of music, composing, performing and listening skills are studied and developed. Throughout the year groups can perform in musical productions and there are informal concerts for individual soloists. As well as formal church services, there is also a summer concert for all the ensembles.

Drama
Drama at Oakfield is about building confidence, and improving articulation, listening and communication both as an individual and within a group. We believe this is achieved through the experience of 'doing' and being inspired at what we learn along the way. Whether it's games, freeze frames, speed work, improvisation or other acting exercises we encourage children to think of different ways of leaning. Children should be inspired to use their senses, approach things with great imagination and express pure creativity wherever possible. Drama is a fantastic medium for doing this.

Art
Art at Oakfield is about more than just making 'art'. At our heart, we recognise the important qualities a child learns through the process of being creative. They seek to develop resilience; encouraging children not to give up; to find another way to solve a problem, seeking advice or working as a team to achieve a goal. It is important that children develop an informed opinion but also that they learn to respect the work of others and develop an open mind which allows them to ‘see’ without prejudice. We want our children to be empowered as they work on a project; to feel a sense of responsibility for and an authority over what they produce.
