Dulwich Prep London

Description

Dulwich Prep London is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 2 to 14 (Gender - 2 to 14 )

They want the boys to experience the very best in pastoral care, teaching and learning, enjoy the most dynamic and demanding academic and co-curricular programmes, and make friends for life. These are the key building blocks for the school, but it is our values that act as the cement which bonds everyone and everything together. The values sow the seeds of possibility in the mind, heart and spirit of each boy and create the right culture and the right conditions to allow these possibilities to flourish and become real.

Early Years Curriculum
The Early Years Department provides a warm and friendly introduction to school life. The curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which recognises the importance of nurturing positive relationships and tailoring the environment to meet the needs and interests of each unique child.Personal, social and emotional development is central to our daily provision. Emphasis is placed on promoting the children’s communication and language skills, and teacher-led activities, including literacy and maths, are differentiated. From the outset the boys and girls are taught about characteristics of effective learning, beginning to understand that it’s acceptable to make mistakes and that effort counts.

Pre-Prep Curriculum
In the Pre-Prep, Years 1 and 2, the curriculum builds on the excellent foundations laid in the Early Years section. The characteristics of effective learning continue to form an integral part of each boy’s academic development and underpin every aspect of it.Specialist teaching is extended beyond Music and Physical Education to include Drama, MFL (French and Spanish) and Computing. Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) is also introduced as a discrete specialist lesson each week.

Lower School Curriculum
The curriculum in the Lower School offers a seamless transition from Pre-Prep. Many of the subjects continue to be delivered by class teachers, however, the number of specialist subject lessons increases. This helps the boys to become more independent and experience a variety of teachers and teaching styles whilst also enabling the reinforcement of a growth mindset in each boy.

Middle School Curriculum
In the Middle School the curriculum is delivered wholly by specialist teachers who are experts in their own field. A wider range of academic subjects are taught in sets, which help respond to the needs of each individual and provide appropriate challenge for every ability level.

Upper School Curriculum
The Upper School curriculum prepares boys for exam success whilst continuing to foster a love for learning. Boys are taught to think and reflect on their learning and Costa’s Habits of Mind continue to provide a framework of learning which helps them face and overcome academic challenges. We recognise that the boys, at this stage in their education, are of ‘secondary’ age and require a curriculum and support network which is relevant, inspiring and challenging.

Features

Things to note

Digital Learning
Digital Literacy is the ability to use practical knowledge and critical thinking to safely, effectively and responsibly create digital content using a range of technologies. Our boys first learn to effectively navigate the internet; understand the nuances of search, discern good content from bad, and comprehend the importance of e-safety. Digital Literacy is more than touch typing and word processing, it now includes being able to make effective presentations, understanding digital note taking, creating digital posters and books, mind mapping, photography and moviemaking just to name a few!

Clubs
Dulwich Prep London runs a huge number of co-curricular clubs and activities each week – there were almost 150 clubs last year! All pupils and staff members from Year 1 upwards are encouraged to participate. Some are by invitation only, such as musical groups or sports squads but the vast majority are open to any interested pupil.
