Description

Durham High School is unique as the only girls’ school in County Durham. Its distinctiveness also stems from being an all-through school, educating pupils from Nursery through to the Sixth Form on one site. This is a great asset and one that is obvious to visitors who also comment on the warm, friendly atmosphere.

Facilities

  • They take activities beyond the classroom just as seriously as lessons. Extra-curricular programme is planned to suit all tastes and talents. 
  • Lunch times are always busy with so many activities for pupils to fit in, while remembering to make time to visit the dining room. Seniors may be rushing off to a choral practice or netball, whilst others are selling cakes for charity or preparing tents for an expedition. After school clubs are just as numerous, with Art, Drama and several sports on offer. Other activities such as Debating, Greek, and science clubs also compete for girls’ attention.
  • Older pupils can undertake charitable work for an orphanage in Sri Lanka or go on overseas sports tours, ski trips and cultural visits to France and Spain.

Things to note

When your child is in the school they are taught through inspirational, inclusive teaching and learning opportunities. They learn to apply their literacy, numeracy and life skills from age 3 to 11 and thus achieve great success both academically and pastorally. Music, PE and languages are taught by specialists throughout Junior House and the older pupils have the fantastic opportunity of Science lessons in the Senior House labs.
