Description

Haberdashers' Girls' Junior School is a Independent Primary School for kids aged 4 to 18 (Gender - Girls)

They have an excellent reputation for the academic attainments of all the pupils but they also believe in the development of the whole person, whether it is excelling in music, sport and drama or simply enjoying participating in them. Charity fund-raising, working with the wider and global community and looking beyond our beautiful campus location are all important aspects of the education provided here. The days are busy and creative; lessons are fun and varied but there is also the time and space for pupils to reflect on their lives and their dreams. They strive to encourage independent learning and we hope that our pupils will relish the opportunity to study a wide range of subjects. The pupils leave to take up places at the top universities with many happy memories of their time here, returning later in their careers to support another generation of Habs pupils as they take their next steps into the wider world.

Facilities

Junior School
Welcome to the Junior School section of the Habs website. They hope that you are enthused by our approach to the education of pupils between the ages of 4 and 11 and that it will encourage you to visit the school to find out more from some of the people in the community: the pupils, the staff and existing parents. They believe in a holistic school culture which prioritises the education of the whole person through creative, broad-based and independent learning. They value the pupils’ personal, social, spiritual and physical development as much as their academic development. When a child joins us at either 4 or 7, they become a Habs pupil not just for the time she is in the Junior School but until she leaves them to go to university at 18. They share the whole school mission to prepare the pupils for life beyond school, proud to play our part in the early years of their journey to becoming independent, resilient, resourceful young adults who have the confidence and skills to fulfil their dreams and ambitions.

Senior School
The school follows its own wide-ranging academic curriculum tailored to the needs of its very able pupils. It preserves the best of a traditional education whilst embracing developments in teaching and learning. All Year 7 pupils are issued with an iPad to enhance their learning experience, alongside continuing to develop their writing skills. Regardless of the subject, the curriculum aims to be something that inspires pupils and stimulates discussion and ideas. They value independent thinking, creativity and imagination and the opportunity to pursue topics beyond the confines of the exam specifications. The school is not required to follow the National Curriculum but, in practice, all departments keep themselves up-to-date about National Curriculum requirements and developments. We draw upon the best practice of what is happening nationally and in other schools.

Things to note

Co-Curricular Activities
One of the things people comment on when at the School is the breath-taking array of co-curricular activities on offer.  Students are able to choose from a smorgasbord of activities; finding those that truly ignite their passion.  Staff (and students) run a huge variety of co-curricular activities and pupils are encouraged to become widely involved in a range of enterprises. School trips, at home and abroad, help to extend the cultural and social horizons of our students and support for charities – whether as an individual, a member of a Form or House or a member of the school – is encouraged and recognised. Members of the Upper School and Sixth Form participate in regular community service.
