Hallfield School is Independent Secondary school in Selective for kids aged 0 to 13 (Gender - 0 to 13 )
Hallfield School is now in its one-hundred-and-forty-third year. Its strength today after so long and successful a history is a testament to that heritage – but also to how the school has constantly changed to ensure its standards remain amongst the highest in the independent sector. The distinguished past is matched by our ambitions for our future, to offer the pupils who come here a first-class prep school education. Our pupils enjoy unrivalled academic success due to our excellent teaching environment and by working in partnership with the child and parents, leavers at the age of eleven move on to highly selective schools, both in the maintained and independent sectors.
Pre-Prep
The Pre-Prep School comprises of Foundation, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The department is a vibrant learning environment utilising wonderful outdoor facilities alongside extended and refurbished Foundation and Reception classrooms. Children within the Department are aged between three and seven years and follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 curriculums. The department has a simple philosophy: that the first years of a child’s education are the most important, and that each child deserves to gain the most from this time.
EYFS
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at our Pre-Prep School is split into two elements: Foundation and Reception. This staged introduction to school life is part of Hallfield’s commitment to providing your child with the securest foundations for a successful educational future. Delivery of the EYFS’ seven areas of learning is tailored to each child’s individual needs and interests.
Year 1
Year 1 is taught in three forms, each with an assigned Teacher and a Teaching Assistant. Children at this stage are taught the National Curriculum and more, with Mathematics and English lessons taking place each morning. There is a focus on reading each day, with children taking reading books home each evening. Regular trips to the School library further enhance pupils’ reading.
Year 2
Year 2 continues your child’s progress through Key Stage 1. Mathematics and English lessons continue to be taught each morning, with the work differentiated for each child.Information is provided via the child’s academic planner. This document outlines ways parents can support and help their child and extends the communication between school and home.
Sports
They are proud of the excellent reputation for how successful the pupils are in the classroom – but they are just as keen of their achievements on the sport field, too. The teams, from athletics and netball to cricket and rugby, are always striving for further silverware. We encourage all children at Hallfield to take part in sporting activities and co-curricular activities, considering it both a healthy and important activity. We believe that sport bolsters self-esteem and fosters teamwork and relationship-building.
Music
Music is a central part of school life at Hallfield; the creativity, sense of achievement and community spirit it can foster fills our classrooms and corridors. From the very earliest years, children have designated lessons with a music specialist where they take their first steps in exploring sounds, using their voices musically and experiencing music-making in an ensemble context. Every child has a class music lesson once a week and, by the time pupils are ready to move on from Hallfield, they will have explored a range of musical genres, developed a singing voice, composed their own music, listened to music critically and had the opportunity to use music technology and a range of instruments.
Selection Criteria: Selective

Children at Hallfield are prepared for entry to the select entry Grammar Schools and Independent Schools in Birmingham, the West Midlands and further afield at both 11+ and 13+.The children are assessed from 2+ to 10+ to ensure that, if offered a place, they will be happy, successful and will be able to cope with the academic rigours of the School.
