Leicester Preparatory School is Independent Primary school in Leicester for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
Welcome to the historic school. They are very passionate about the proud history of our school. Stoneygate College was started in 1878 by two sisters the Misses MacKennal (Gertrude and Jean). It began in a house mid-way up London Road, however the ladies soon commissioned a purpose built building in the developing suburb of Stoneygate. That building now houses the present School. The building was designed by the Leicester architect James Tait and included a school room, gymnasium, as well as living quarters. The building has been in continuous use as a school since it opened in 1886. We changed the name of the school to better represent the type of school it is but we have kept the historic name. This makes Leicester Preparatory School (Stoneygate College) the oldest prep school in City of Leicester. As a long established school we pride ourselves on our academic standards and our warm nurturing environment, where we strive for a love of learning and academic excellence. Our students, staff and parents absolutely love the school. This is reflected in the feedback we receive.

Early Years
Early childhood development is now seen as pivotal to future success and wellbeing. Our highly trained and caring teachers create a happy and safe environment in which young imaginations of our two – five-year-old pupils are inspired, ready for their next adventure in Pre Prep School.Learning is primarily based on play and exploration with termly topics to keep young imaginations inspired. We use the Read Write Inc literacy scheme and an Early Years Mathematics programme to develop basic writing and numeracy skills. We have specialist teaching for Gymnastics and Movement, Modern Foreign Languages (French Club), Music and Performing Arts (Confidence Club).
Pre Prep
Moving onto Pre-Prep school is an exciting time for all 5- to 7-year-olds, as our staff help them develop their love of learning through a broad curriculum and stimulating activities. Your child will be well prepared for Prep-School. The Pre-Prep School at LPS takes children from the age of 5, through to the age of 7. Pre-Prep picks up and expands upon the practices and understanding that our pupils learn and develop in our Early Years classes.By introducing new subjects to the curriculum for our Pre-Prep pupils, we give them the opportunity to try new things. On top of this, by setting Pre-Prep pupils a small amount of homework each day, we begin to see them take their learning into their own hands; this will serve them well as they progress on their educational journey with us.
Prep School
The Prep School at LPS caters for pupils between the ages of 7-11. In the Prep School, your child will benefit from first-rate teaching in core subjects, together with specialist teaching in areas including Specialist Sports, Music and Drama. Our 7- to 11-year-olds make excellent academic progress as they are inspired to develop their love of learning even further.

ADVENTURE, DISCOVERY, EXCITEMENT, VARIETY, THE UNEXPECTED are all vital to a happy, fulfilling childhood. Together they help children explore their world and understand their place in it. We strive for our pupils to be open-minded and open-eyed – always to have a go and grasp every opportunity offered to them.To this end, we are constantly looking to introduce new experiences and pupils’ opportunity to try something different, develop existing interests or discover new ones. The list is continuously changing to meet the individual’s needs. Still, it includes a range of sport, including Archery, Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, horse riding, Taekwondo, to name a few of the school’s sports. Other extra-curricular activities that stimulate the mind and build confidence include Chess, Dance and Musical Theatre. The newly refurbished playground, professionally designed to incorporate our aims, has proved to be a massive success for all children.
