Selection Criteria: Selective

Admission Details

Early Years and Foundation Stage Entry: Assessments for girls joining in the Early Years (Nursery and Reception) are based on verbal and practical activities. Your daughter's assessment will last approximately 30 minutes.

Years 1 - 6 Entry: Your daughter will join for part of the school day, the length of which will depend on her age. During that time, your daughter will be assessed in Reading, Writing, Spelling and Mathematics. A report will also be requested from your daughter's current school.

Year 7 Entry: To be assessed for Year 7 entry, your daughter will undertake:

  • A written English comprehension paper and writing exercise lasting 45 minutes.
  • A paper testing mathematical ability lasting 45 minutes that covers areas of the national Numeracy Strategy in the Year 6 programme of study.
  • A computer based test that measures verbal, numerical and non-verbal ability.
  • An interview with a member of the teaching staff.
  • Will also require a report from your daughter’s present school.

Year 8, 9 & 10 Entry: For entry into Senior School in Year 8 and above, your daughter will undertake:

  • A written English comprehension paper and an extended writing exercise lasting approximately 90 minutes.
  • A paper testing mathematical ability lasting 60 minutes.
  • A Non Verbal Reasoning paper which will assess your daughter’s problem solving using logic and reasoning; this paper lasts 30 minutes.
  • A Verbal Reasoning paper to assess your daughter’s ability to understand and reason using words.
  • An interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Will also require a report from your daughter’s present school.

Sixth Form Entry: Your daughter will be required to attend an interview with the Head and Director of Sixth Form. She will also be required to attain nine GCSEs, of which at least six should be at Grade 6, 7, 8 or 9. In addition, depending on her A Level subject choices, she may be required to achieve a particular grade in a specified GCSE subject or subjects as set out in Sixth Form Course Details brochure for the year she is applying for. They will also require a report from your daughter's present school.

Scholarships

Newcastle High School for Girls is proud to offer an awards programme for girls joining Senior School at the start of Year 7 and also for the start of Year 12. For Year 7, they offer Scholar, Exhibition (Drama, Music and Sport) and Bursary Awards. For Year 12, girls can apply for Scholar and Bursary awards. The brochure below explains more about the awards available and the application process.
