  • They always strive to build on success and ambition for sport continues to grow as they build a new £4 million sports complex to elevate sporting offer even further for all of the pupils from Nursery to Sixth Form. The new facility creates a state-of-the-art sports hall beyond the normal scale, incorporating multiple courts for tennis, netball and more, significantly developing sporting capacity to a region-leading level.

Features

Things to note

  • Many pupils also take regular lessons with peripatetic music tutors, co-ordinated by our director of Music. Pupils are able to take lessons in all orchestral instruments plus piano, saxophone, guitar, drums and singing. These lessons allow pupils access to the highest levels of qualifications with pupils regularly reaching Grade 8 and diploma level.
  • Regular rehearsals and co-curricular clubs support three major performances each year. In the Autumn term, Whole School Musical brings together Music and Drama to showcase the talents of all of our Senior School pupils. Recent productions have included ‘Grease’, ‘Me and My Girl’ and ‘The Sound of Music’.
  • As a School they value the opportunities Educational Visits offer. Many staff take the chance to enhance the delivery of the curriculum through day trips and out of school activities. Residential trips and visits are a wonderful part of a NULS education and they are grateful to parents and staff for their support with these.

Admission Details

Entry into the Nursery: Little NULS Nursery offers a warm and supportive environment for our littlest pupils to grow and to thrive. Children may start Nursery at any time of the year, subject to availability. Generally, the earliest they can start is at the beginning of the term in which they will turn three (rising threes). However, they can offer a limited number of places to two year olds subject to availability. The Nursery School terms run from 1 September – 31 December; 1 January – 31 March and 1 April – 31 August.

Entry into the Preparatory School: Preparatory School is leading the way with its bold Prep Way vision for an exciting and challenging curricular and co-curricular offer. As thriving school continues to go from strength to strength, they are opening new classes for September 2022 and they would be delighted to hear from Parents who want their children to join. Subject to availability, a Reception place can be offered on the outcome of an informal assessment based on practical activities covering general development. Children entering Years 1 to 6 will undertake an assessment. Please contact to discuss moving forward with an application. Every day is an Open Day and the best way to appreciate all that Prep has to offer is to come and see the School for yourself.

Entry into the Senior School: It is a very special moment when any pupil joins our Senior School and on this page you can find out information about how our admissions process for pupils joining in years 7 to 11 works. Many of the pupils join in Year 7 after visiting us on October Open Morning and sitting an entrance examination in November of their Year 6. They recommend registering early for this examination and for range of prestigious Scholarship and Exhibition awards as interest is always high. Pupils are very welcome to join at the start of Year 8, Year 9 or Year 10 as they know parents want to make sure that their children will thrive in this important period of their education. They help pupils to make a smooth transition to their secondary and GCSE studies. For pupils who wish to join mid-year, examinations, tours and other admissions arrangements can be made as required – please do not hesitate to get in touch. Candidates for entry into the Senior School take papers in Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and English, Comprehension and a computer based assessment.

Entry into Sixth Form: They are always delighted to welcome enquiries about our Sixth Form. They welcome students from a range of local schools every year who begin their Sixth Form journey. Entry into the Sixth Form is by interview and satisfactory school report. An offer will be made conditional upon the applicant achieving a minimum of five (I)GCSEs at grade 6 / B  and 3 at grade 5 / C.  Subjects selected for study at A Level will need to be at grade 6 / B or above. A range of prestigious Scholarships and Exhibition Awards are available to internal and external entrants to Newcastle-under-Lyme School’s Sixth Form.
