The qualified, friendly staff are dedicated to providing each child with all the support and encouragement they need to learn and grow. The Nursery children are guaranteed a place in Reception, starting the September after their fourth birthday. The children enjoy nutritionally balanced, home-cooked lunches, made on-site by the catering team. They offer extended days and all-year-round care, and staff work in partnership with parents to welcome children into the happy environment. Ample opportunity is given to discussing your child’s routine, diet, likes and dislikes, ensuring that their needs are catered for.
Pre-Prep
In Edenhurst Pre-Prep they work closely with each and every child, in order to support them in developing the skills and interests cultivated in the Early Years Foundation Stage. They cover the National Curriculum extensively, and develop each individual’s confidence in the traditional “Three Rs”.We believe that a passion for reading is one of the most valuable attributes they can foster in a young child. Children in Forms 1 and 2 read daily, and parents are invited to share in and encourage their child’s progress by listening to them read at home.Spelling lessons are linked with our handwriting scheme, which encourages a joined script. Maths lessons include the learning of tables within a structured system. Spelling and Maths learning is reinforced by small homework assignments and weekly tests to monitor and support each individual’s progress.
Prep (Year 3 to Year 6)
Upon entering the Prep Forms, a specialist subject-based approach is adopted. Each subject is led by a teacher who is a specialist in their own field, allowing the children to benefit from expertise and an enthusiasm derived from a genuine interest in each subject.Pupils in the Prep Forms continue to build on their skills in English and Maths, as well as other core subjects, and preparation for entrance examinations at 11+ is an ongoing process at Edenhurst. Small class sizes of 20 or below are maintained to allow for the most advantageous pupil to adult ratio.Children benefit from a careful and sensitive familiarisation with the demands of examinations, and parents are also invited to join the Head or Deputy Head for a discussion on future schooling. Edenhurst has an excellent record in preparing children for transfer to senior school at age 11, and each year a number of children gain scholarships to a range of schools. Sports & PE
At Edenhurst, we place a strong emphasis on health and fitness outside the classroom. They believe that the opportunity to take part in a variety of sporting activities should be offered to all children, in the hope that each child may find at least one activity to enjoy. They believe that healthy competition is character building, and teams of different ages enjoy fixtures against other independent schools in football, rugby, hockey and netball. Ball skills and co-ordination are developed from an early age, and later on opportunities arise to represent the school in team matches.
