Newport Girls' High School Academy is leading State Secondary school in Newport. This is a Selective school for kids age 11 to 18 years. Gender - Girls
They support students academically to achieve their potential, whilst also developing resilience and promoting emotional wellbeing. As a relatively small school, there is a real family-feel to NGHS and our house system affords students the chance to meet peers in other year groups and to participate in healthy competition in a wide range of disciplines. There is an extra-curricular activity to suit all tastes at NGHS and staff work exceptionally hard to provide these opportunities for our students. We also organise a number of key open events during the academic year and welcome visitors to see all that NGHS has to offer.
KS3 Curriculum
The KS3 curriculum is broad and balanced with a clear aim of preparing students to face the rigour of the new GCSE specifications. All students study three separate sciences in KS3 as well as two modern languages.
16-19 Cirriculum
Post 16 study at Newport Girls’ High School is designed to provide all students with a structured and challenging individualised study programme, which reflects their prior attainment, education and career goals. All students are expected to undertake a full time study programme including at least 3 full A Level courses. Additionally, students have the opportunity to take either an Extended Project Qualification, a further A level (usually Further Mathematics) or AS PE. Whilst the A level courses studied represent a substantive part of the study programme, all students have access to an abundance of enrichment activities
Sixth Form
The Sixth Form curriculum is designed to develop the academic and personal skills required to successfully bridge the gap between school and Higher Education or Training. They aim to provide the structure of a school environment, alongside encouraging independence, through an offer that includes a wide range of opportounities, either provided directly or through liaison with outside agencies.
Clubs and Activities
They are extremely proud of our extra-curricular programme at NGHS; there really is something for everyone. Designed to enrich student experiences of NGHS they have clubs that include Academic Support alongside Sports, Music, Art, Dance, Chess, Board Games, and Coding, to name just a few! We encourage all students to participate in at least one extra-curricular activity and achievement points are awarded for this. Whilst many of our clubs are led by staff, we also have student led clubs allowing our students to not only share their passions with others but also to develop their leadership skills. We are always open to new ideas for clubs and activities and students are encouraged to speak to Miss Webster if they have either a request for a club or would like to run a new club.
