Oakfields School is an independent day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 11, surrounded by seven acres of beautiful parkland on the edge of Upminster, Essex. We provide an outstanding curriculum, athletics, arts and extra-curricular activities within a safe and nurturing environment. As a small school, our dedicated teachers personalise learning for each student. We guide and support everyone while making appropriate demands of each pupil’s intellect and energy. Our school also prepares pupils rigorously for successful entry to senior school (including 11+ prep), according to each child’s academic profile. Facilities

Kindergarten - Ages 3-4
Boys and girls can join Kindergarten from the term in which they are 3. Our Kindergarten staff are highly experienced, supportive and caring and are dedicated to helping your child grow in confidence and independence. Our children follow a specifically-tailored and richly diverse EYFS curriculum, taught by NQT teacher. The formative years of a child’s education are ones of excitement, exploration and discovery, where they will begin to make friends, experience new opportunities.

Reception - Ages 4-5
In reception our children follow an enhanced EYFS curriculum, all children have the opportunity to learn at their own pace and to flourish. Well-qualified, dedicated and experienced teachers deliver a vibrant, diverse and exciting curriculum. Our small class sizes and excellent pupil-teacher ratios mean we can focus on teaching small groups, with clearly differentiated work, to ensure your child is taught at the correct pace for their ability.

Key Stage 1 - Ages 5-7
Key Stage 1 comprises Year 1 (children aged 5 to 6) and Year 2 (children aged 6 to 7). We have a commitment to a broad and innovative curriculum encouraging active learning. Children receive tuition from their class teacher in English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, P.S.H.C.E and Religious Education. Music, P.E. and Spanish are integral parts of the curriculum and are taught by specialist teachers.

Key Stage 2 - Ages 7-11
Key Stage 2 comprises Year 3 (children aged 7 to 8), Year 4 (children aged 8 to 9), Year 5 (aged 9 to 10) and Year 6 (aged 10-11). Whilst there is a focus on core subjects, we aim to give our pupils a diverse and balanced education as they work towards making the transition to secondary school. We celebrate high levels of achievement and ambition and push boundaries, so children go beyond simply the acquisition of knowledge. From Year 3 upwards, all children benefit from 11+ preparation and independent school entrance exams. Children are also offered assistance with selective examinations and interviews.

Sports
At Oakfields, they believe in a “sports for all” approach and they offer a huge choice of sports as children progress throughout the school. We believe sport is an integral part of education and child development and it can have a hugely positive affect on confidence, moral values, team-working and leadership skills.They encourage healthy competition, offering many fixtures with other schools in a wide range of sports throughout the year. We also have links with many outside organisations including West Ham and Chelsea Football Clubs, which provide further opportunities for children to improve their sporting prowess.

Music
Music is highly valued at Oakfields and they offer a dynamic, varied and inspirational music education, within an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment. Music is an integral part of the curriculum and is taught weekly from Pre-Prep upwards. As well as an impressive set of drums and a Marimba, we have a range of hand-held percussion instruments for smaller children, a range of special effects and multi-cultural instruments, as well as class sets of recorders and keyboards, to name a few.

Extra Curricular
At Oakfields, they place a great emphasis on extra-curricular activities and can offer pupils a thriving roster of stimulating pursuits to capture their imagination and complement their lessons.These activities contribute to the physical, emotional, mental and social development of every child and offer opportunities for creativity and self-expression, as well as contributing to the building of confidence and resilience.They believe that education is as much about what happens outside a classroom as what happens within and our extra-curricular activities are a fantastic way for pupils to pursue their interests or try something new.
