Red Balloon Learner Centres provide a safe, full-time learning environment for children aged eleven to sixteen (eighteen at Red Balloon of the Air) who have self-excluded from mainstream school due to bullying, trauma or mental health issues.
The Centre covers core subjects in the National Curriculum as well as the humanities, art, modern foreign languages, PSHE and home cooking. They offer additional qualifications according to students’ interests and aptitude and so, if someone has a particular interest, they may be able to accommodate their choice of qualifications. They have access to Harrow School’s excellent sports facilities.

If you think Red Balloon might benefit you, then do get in touch. They have Centres in Cambridge, Norwich, NW London, Reading and Worthing, so if you live near one of those, then the Head of Centre would be happy to talk through your requirements.
Following a successful taster experience or home visit, they will hold further discussions with your parents or carers, and work out what happens next.
They will need to talk to your school or local authority about how your place will be funded; funds which may come from the Local Authority, schools or parents (with a possible contribution from our bursary fund in some instances). Sometimes funding for bespoke programmes will be met by a combination of these funding sources.
If you are not offered a place, or choose not to come to Red Balloon because you don’t think it suits your needs, then they can offer you advice and support on the next steps that you and your family might take.
