The John Lyon School is a leading independent day school in Harrow-on-the-hill for kids aged 2 to 18.

Facilities

John Lyon can boast excellent sporting facilities. At our Senior School site there is a large sports hall, fitness suite, 25m swimming pool and an outdoor practice pitch/court. At our Prep School site, there is an indoor heated swimming pool and a dedicated AstroTurf court. At the nearby 25-acre Sudbury Fields, we have ten Football pitches, as well as three Cricket squares, an artificial wicket, a large pavilion with hospitality facilities and an Archery range. The School has both indoor and outdoor Cricket nets. John Lyon also has extensive access to sporting facilities at Harrow School, including a new Athletics track, a nine-hole Golf course and Tennis, Squash and Badminton courts.

The academic curriculum is at the very heart of everything at John Lyon.

A School day is made up of six to eight periods, with lessons of either 40 or 60 minutes, depending on year group and subject.

This flexible curriculum means Heads of Department can tailor their subject time to the requirements of that subject and year group. It also means that ours is not an environment where bells mark the change of lessons.

Different year groups will follow different daily routines, boys are taught the importance of self-management and good timekeeping, and are entrusted to move themselves around the School site quietly and efficiently.

Registration Fee: £125
UK Deposit: £750
Overseas Deposit: £3,000

Year 7 to Upper Sixth £7,632 per term

 

Scholarships

All boys and girls who sit the 11+, and the 13+ examinations in the January preceding entry will be considered for Academic Scholarships; their performance in the examination, their school report and their interview will all be taken into consideration. Scholarships are also available for the most able candidates in Music, Drama, Sport, STEAM and Art: additional assessments will be required for these awards. Scholarships normally provide a remission of 5% of the tuition fees per year. Music, Drama, STEAM, Sport and Art Scholarship application forms are available to download below or can be requested from the Admissions Office if required.

The final dates for submission of a Scholarship application are:

  • 11th November of the school year prior to entry for 11+ and 13+
  • 31st January of the school year prior to entry for 16+
