St Mary's School for Girls is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 16 (Gender - 3 to 16 )

A truly independent school in Colchester, North Essex. They are proud to have charitable status, meaning all fees are reinvested into the school. They are also truly independent, with no owners or shareholders, and are overseen by a committed governing body who help ensure we provide a high quality education and a happy learning environment.
 

Facilities

Kindergarten
Great introduction to learning, Children can start at St Mary’s Kindergarten in the term they turn three. During their time at the nursery, we introduce children to learning and give them a solid preparation for starting school, both academically and socially, so they can make the most of all the opportunities school life brings.

Lower School
In the small classes, each child receives just the right amount of support and challenge to realise their innermost academic potential. Pupils are equipped to be independent learners, to ask questions and to find out the answers themselves, continually expanding their learning.

Senior School
English, Maths, Science and a Modern Foreign Language are all compulsory GCSEs with girls who are excelling having the option of taking Triple Science, Further Maths and Statistics. All other subjects are available as options and PE and PSHEE are taught to all students all the way through to Year 11.

Open Days & Visits
The best way to get to know St Mary’s is to take a look around. We hold Open Days throughout the year. Alternatively, our Registrar is happy to conduct individual tours at a time to suit you.

Clubs and activities
From athletics to ballet, there are clubs and activities to suit all interests at St Mary’s. As well as sports, art, drama and music clubs, pupils can also try activities such as yoga or dancing. Admission Details

Senior School Admissions
The main entry point to St Mary’s Senior School is at the start of Year 7, at the age of 11. Girls may join us later in Year 7, or in Years 8 or 9 if a place becomes available. It is not usual for students to join us in Years 10 and 11 as the GCSE courses have already begun.

Lower School Admissions
The main entry point to St Mary’s Lower School is to the Preparatory Class (National Curriculum Reception), at the age of four. Many girls progress to the Preparatory Class from St Mary’s own Kindergarten, but others join from a range of nurseries. Girls may join the school in year groups other than the Preparatory Class if there is a place available 

Senior School Admissions

Scholarships

Senior School Scholarships
They are excited to launch the new, enhanced Scholarship programme, designed to accelerate the development of students that are able in a variety of disciplines. Scholars act as role models and leaders to other students and as ambassadors for St Mary’s. They are encouraged, and expected, to make the most of the wealth of educational opportunities available to them to extend, broaden and strengthen their aptitudes and talents, and to gain valuable experience that will stand them in good stead for the future.
