St Paul's Cathedral School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 4 to 13 (Gender - 4 to 13 )
Welcome to the St Paul's Cathedral School website. They are a co-educational preparatory school for boys and girls aged 4 to 13 and a residential choir school for the boy choristers of St Paul's Cathedral. We have a unique location in the heart of the City of London and a history that can be traced back to the 12th century. Our close links with St Paul’s Cathedral are very important to us and we affectionately refer to this wonderful building as our 'school chapel'. It is a very special place.Education has a profound impact on society. At its best, it is about changing the world to be a better place, for all. The pandemic has shown us our fragility, but also our resilience and interdependency on each other, across the world, and from every walk of life. It has also shown in sharp relief the terrible inequalities in society. We also have our most pressing issue: climate change. Adversity is a catalyst to imagine and create a better future, and at St Paul’s Cathedral School, we want to help our young people to have the creative courage to make a difference in their lifetimes. It is not easy, but we must strive for this and it starts young.
Pre-Prep School
Welcome to the Pre-Prep department, where every child is nurtured, encouraged and challenged to be the best they can be. Our busy and exciting curricula challenge the children to think broadly, consider others and ask questions and our excellent pastoral support ensures all children are cared for and happy throughout their schooling. The Pre-Prep at St Paul’s Cathedral School consists of Reception and Key Stage One (Years 1 and 2).
Prep School
As pupils enter the Prep School in Year 3 (aged 7+), they begin to experience slightly more independence and specialist teaching. In Years 3 and 4 there are two classes and the form room still acts as a base for the students. The Year 3 and 4 staff teach English, Maths and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Pupils continue to keep active through PE, Dance, Games and Drama lessons with specialist teachers. Art, French and Music are also taught by specialists. From Year 5, we adopt a full senior school model with pupils moving between classes. The pupils are required to be much more independent and organised. They study under many more staff; subject specialists delivering Science, Humanities, French, Latin & ICT. Specific preparation for Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning testing at 11+ also begins.
MUSIC
St Paul's offers tuition in all orchestral instruments as well as electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drums and percussion, piano, singing and the organ. Instrumental soloists are encouraged to take part in the Annual House Music Competition. They have over 20 experienced visiting music staff, most of whom combine a professional performing career with teaching. We also have a music administrator who schedules some 320 music lessons a week. They have two school orchestras and a range of ensembles including big band, brass ensemble, an early music group, string orchestra, clarinet and recorder ensembles. Aside from the Cathedral choir we have three school choirs who sing at carol services and regularly perform for City Livery Companies and the Old Bailey.
CLUBS
They run a range of after-school clubs for Year 1 and 2 children. In the past these have included football, taskmaster, karaoke, model building, photography, craft and yoga amongst others! The clubs change regularly so the children have the opportunity to experience many extracurricular activities with a range of staff. Children are welcome to attend two after-school clubs a week and are given the opportunity to change their choice of club termly.
SPORT
Sport is a very important feature of life at St Paul's. Achievement is recognised and applauded at school level, in House competitions and against other schools. The aim is to enable all our children to achieve their potential through physical activity, nurture confidence and instil the values of sportsmanship and fair play as well as the intrinsic desire to win. Maximum participation is encouraged and effort is praised at every level. Most importantly, we aim to give our children a real desire to take sport into the next part of their lives, whether recreationally or at a highly competitive level. We offer a range of sports and encourage a positive attitude towards sport and health- related fitness.
