Facilities

Haberdashers’ now has the facilities you would expect of a school of its stature: a cutting-edge sports centre, swimming pool and gymnasium; dedicated ICT suites, a science and geography centre; a fully equipped art studio and design and technology centre; an assembly hall with stage and flytower, a drama studio, a music school with concert hall, a multi-purpose library, and dedicated classrooms for all subjects.

  • Throughout the summer term all boys are taught Athletics and near the end of term there is a sports day in which every boy participates. 
  • Speech and Drama lessons are optional co-curricular activities for boys in Years 5 and 6.

Admission Details

4+ Admissions: At 4+ they will be admitting 36 pupils in two classes of 18. Entry is for children aged 4 and below the age of 5 on 1 September in the year of entry. For September 2023 entry, all applicants will be invited to a play based session, the dates of which can be found below. Some children will be called back for a second assessment.

7+ Admissions: Entry is for pupils aged 7 and below the age of 8 on 1 September in the year of entry. Candidates take a series of tests in reading, writing, mathematics and reasoning. The date of the entrance examination for 2023 applicants is to be confirmed. Some candidates are selected for a second stage and are asked to attend for interview at school. Parents are asked to come in with their pupils at the interview to meet the Headmaster or a Deputy Head. 

11+ Admissions: Entry is for applicants aged 11 and below the age of 12 on 1 September in the year of entry. Candidates take an entrance examination consisting of a 90-minute, bespoke reasoning examination on a computer. This includes verbal and non-verbal reasoning, English and Maths questions. This will take place on the school premises. Candidates will be invited to one of four sessions. A number of pupils are called forward for interview on the basis of their performance in the reasoning test and, among these candidates, offers of places are subsequently made. Applicants are not required to bring books, projects or other work with them to interview, but they ask one or both of an applicant’s parents or guardians to attend at this time, in order to meet the Headmaster or a Deputy Head. 

13+ Admissions: Entry is for applicants aged 13 and below the age of 14 on 1 September in the year of entry. Candidates take an entrance examination, which will take place on the school premises. This will take place on Friday 6 January 2023. consisting of written papers in English, Mathematics, Science (Chemistry, Physics and Biology), General Humanities (this is a source-based not a syllabus-based paper). A number of candidates are called forward for interview on the basis of their performance in the written examinations.

16+ Admissions: Entry is for pupils aged 16 or below 17 on 1 September 2022. This is a new point of entry at Haberdashers' Boys' School. A cohort will join our thriving Sixth Form of approximately 340 students across Years 12 and 13. In order to obtain a 16+ place at Habs, applicants will require, as a minimum, six 8 or 9 grades at GCSE plus four 7s grades. They must have an 8 or 9 in any subject they wish to take for A level. Pupils take three A Level subjects, but they may take four if they wish to take Maths and Further Maths. In order to take Further Maths candidates must have a 9 in GCSE Maths. From September 2020 they have introduced the Aske Level as a supplement to A Levels, which draws from the best elements of the IB.
