Curriculum
The Curriculum at The Study School is both rich and academic. Our aim is to educate the whole child so that educationally, socially and morally they are able to integrate and flourish when they progress to the secondary schools of their choice at the age of eleven; our pupils gain places at local Independent Secondary schools and highly selective Grammar Schools. In the early years, the emphasis at the school is on a firm foundation of reading, writing and number skills taught by class teachers. From Reception upwards as well as the core subjects taught the children receive lessons in French, Music, Art, Design Technology, PSHE, and Games, mainly from specialist teachers. Older children also learn Spanish and Chinese as a second modern foreign language. A range of musical instruments are available for the children to learn and peripatetic staff work with their pupils in school throughout the week. In lessons pupils are encouraged to work both independently and in co-operation with others. All children from Reception Class upwards take home a reading book most nights and it is expected that a child should read every day. From Year One homework is set that is appropriate to the child’s age and ability as we believe that this helps to consolidate classroom learning and stimulates self-discipline and independent thought. Educational Trips take place once a term, to complement class learning.
