But, as one parent memorably put it, ‘Warwick Prep makes big feel small’.We are very proud of our tremendous academic reputation, enabling children to fulfil their potential and be the best they can be.
Nutkins (2+)
Nutkins is a fun and informal activity group for you and your little one, before they start at The Squirrels the following September. They understand that for some children, the transition to nursery full-time can be a little daunting. Nutkins helps provide an introduction to the world of learning for both you and your little one, encouraging a positive attitude to school life right from the start. They hold these fun and supportive sessions in the Nursery most Thursday mornings from 9:15am and they last about an hour. A specialist team of staff, many of whom also work in the Nursery, provide a range of activities for parents and children to enjoy.
The Squirrels (3+)
For many children, life at Warwick Prep begins in our purpose-built Nursery. At Warwick Prep, they make big feel small. They have three Nursery classes and four classes in each Pre-Prep year, which are kept to a maximum of 20 children each. This is so they can get to know each child and support all their individual needs. The Squirrels offers a rich, stimulating and secure learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, which encourages children’s natural curiosity and enthusiasm. Our vision is for each child to be the best that they can be, to become happy, confident learners, keen to explore and try out new things.
Reception (4+)
The Squirrels provides your child with the best possible introduction to the exciting world of learning. The close links with the Reception team at Warwick Prep and regular transition visits mean that your child is well-prepared for their move into ‘big school’.The four Reception classes are made up of The Squirrels children continuing their journey at Warwick Prep and a small number of new children, each with a fully qualified teacher and specialist teaching assistant. The small class sizes of around 20 pupils allows us to closely support each child with their learning, encouraging them to progress at their own pace and support them as they embark on their journey through the Foundation.
Clubs & Activities
'Activities' is the name given to the co-curricular clubs that are not part of the main timetabled curriculum. Warwick Prep offers a wide range of co-curricular activities through which pupils can develop their social, sporting and cultural abilities and interests.Children are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities to foster their talents, try new skills and become an active member of the Warwick Prep community. Whether pupils' interests lie in books, performing, arts, crafts, sport, music or languages, there is an activity for them to enjoy.
Music
Music has a very high profile at the school. The children perform regularly in concerts and have enjoyed combined productions with the drama department. Participation in festivals and competitions is encouraged. As pupils move into Key Stage 2 (Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6), pupils enjoy individual tuition on a range of instruments; violin, viola, ‘cello, harp, flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, orchestral percussion, drum kit, saxophone, piano and guitar.
Sport
The pupils here love their sport and a wide range of sporting opportunities using our outstanding facilities is available to the children, through lunchtime and after-school clubs as well as during curriculum lessons. Many of the girls also benefit from our links with the local tennis and hockey clubs, and we also draw on coaching expertise from other schools within the Foundation for swimming, hockey, athletics and cross country. They compete in tournaments and matches most weeks from Year 3 to Year 6.
