Acorn Farm is an award-winning, family-friendly farm attraction in Kirkby, Merseyside, open seven days a week from 10 am to 4 pm.   • About the Farm: Acorn Farm began in 1985 on 4 hectares of derelict ground in an industrial estate in Kirkby, Merseyside, starting with 1 rabbit, 2 gerbils, and 1 employee. Initially a therapy project for local people with disabilities, the farm has developed into an award-winning, multifaceted charity. The farm provides a high-quality and affordable environmental, leisure, and educational attraction for the local community. People with learning disabilities play a central role in all activities. Acorn is a working farm, visitor attraction, and educational resource, with many animals raised for produce, including meat and eggs sold in the farm shop. 
  • Friends of the FarmSmall Animal Petting: Small animal petting sessions take place every weekend, bank holiday, and during Knowsley school holidays (except Christmas school holidays). Tickets are £2 per person for a half-hour session (children under 12 months free). Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult with a ticket. Activities include holding and stroking chicks, rabbits, guinea pigs, pet rats, and pygmy goats. Sessions run every half hour between 10:30 am–3:30 pm (except 1 pm) from April to October, and 11:00 am–3:00 pm (except 1 pm) from November to March. Places are limited to 15 people per session.
  • Horse Rides: Horse rides take place every weekend and bank holiday afternoon, and every afternoon during Knowsley school holidays (except Christmas school holidays), between 1:30 pm–3:00 pm. Tickets cost £3 for 2 circuits of the riding arena and can be purchased at the shop or Admissions Kiosk. 
  • Education and Day Services: Acorn Farm offers an extensive education programme for schools and community groups, as well as a Day Service for people with learning disabilities. Further information is available on the Education Services and Day Services pages.
