Our Family Discovery Guide is designed to be interactive for youngsters and is a great way to have fun and learn at the same time. Follow the map to the Cathedral’s most interesting areas and fill out the trail guide as you go.
  • Tribune Gallery Exhibition: In a gallery space high up above the Cathedral floor, enjoy hands on activities and breath-taking views of the building. Dress up as a Cathedral character, build your own gruesome gargoyle, discover the secrets of how the Cathedral was built and experience the sights and sounds of a recreated medieval chapel. This is also where you will find the Whispering Gallery. Explore this secret passageway to discover its amazing acoustic tricks.

Facilities

  • Parking: We are sorry that due to limited space, parking in the Cathedral Close is restricted to pass holders only. There are eight disabled parking spaces which are for use by Blue Badge holders on a first come first served basis. However, there are several public car parks within easy walking distance of the Cathedral.
  • Food & Drinks: Be sure to visit the Monk’s Kitchen café during your visit to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere and a delicious snack. Situated just off the west walk of the cloisters, you will find a selection of beverages, cakes, hot soup, homemade quiches and sandwiches, and we have a range of Fair-Trade tea and coffee.

  • See where Harry Potter was filmed in the Cloister using the info hub or a Magic, Monks and Mystery Guide
  • Lie on the floor or use the mirror to look up at the golden heavenly orchestra on the Quire ceiling
  • Feed the hungry gargoyles near the exit
  • Enjoy an ice cream from the Monk’s Kitchen eatery
  • Find a stone mason’s mark
  • Hug a pillar in the Nave. How many people with arms outstretched would you need to reach all the way around?
  • Send a secret message through the Whispering Gallery

  • By Car: The Cathedral is located in the historic heart of Gloucester and our spectacular tower can be seen from many spots in and around the city. We are sorry that due to limited space, parking in the Cathedral Close is restricted to pass holders only. There are eight disabled parking spaces which are for use by Blue Badge holders on a first come first served basis. However, there are several public car parks within easy walking distance of the Cathedral.
  • By Public Transport: We are a 10-15 minute walk from both the train and bus stations. You can also use Gloucester’s Park and Ride.
