Our dedicated teaching staff provide a wealth of opportunities for every child to find their passion and reach their potential in the classroom, on the sports field, in the arts and as caring and kind human beings. They are proud of our excellent local reputation and our ability to unlock your child’s full potential, preparing them for the next stage in their academic life.At Benedict House, you will find a caring environment in which all children feel relaxed and at home and where staff get to know every child in the school, and not just those in their own classes. This ensures children are happy, motivated to achieve, enthusiastic about their learning and perfectly placed to make the most of the fantastic opportunities at the school.
Early Years
At Benedict House, they welcome children into the Pre-School from the term in which they turn three. The aim is for the children to be happy, engaged and ever curious in order to develop a lifelong love of learning. They provide an intuitive approach to learning within the Early Years. We pay great attention to a child’s emotional well-being and personal interests; we believe if a child is happy, they are more likely to develop into successful and resilient learners.
Lower School
A welcoming start to the day begins with all children being greeted by their teacher on the playground. Each day is filled with a sense of excitement as the children organise themselves for a full day of lessons ahead. They have a strong work ethic and a deep commitment to ensuring that children reach their full potential on a day-to-day basis. Our extensive range of lessons vary but all are taught with an aim of engaging the children’s natural curiosity. A selection of lessons such as P.E., music and languages are taught by specialist teachers. At the end of the day there are a range of clubs for the children to enjoy, tailored to their interests. Our daily and weekly set homework, which includes reading, mathematics and English, also complement the lessons taught in class. The children enjoy learning in an environment where they can aspire to achieve.
Upper School
Well-structured and stimulating lessons lead to rapid progress in the Prep School stage. Specialist teachers stretch children’s skills in music, French, Spanish and physical education, including swimming. Within the core subjects, teachers plan and deliver dynamic and engaging lessons designed to extend the children’s ability, spark their imaginations and encourage a love of learning to last a lifetime.Years Five and Six also benefit from opportunities to attend residential visits, both in the UK and abroad. These trips are designed to develop the children’s team-building and leadership skills, encourage them to take part in a range of adventurous activities and begin to develop some independence in their trips away from home.At the end of the day, there are a variety of clubs to develop their interests. Homework is set to finish the day, complementing work carried out in lessons.
Outside the Classroom
Being active and interacting is part and parcel of growing up. In fact, it is essential when it comes to the wellbeing of children. This is why the child will be kept active at Benedict House with plenty of outdoor play and exciting activities to enjoy throughout their time here. Pre-School and Reception also have the opportunity to attend Forest School
Sport & PE
At Benedict House, the philosophy to sports and physical education is to develop a love for sport and physical activity through positive experiences. They challenge our pupils to strive for self-improvement and understand the benefits of regular exercise on both their physical and mental health. We want our pupils to have the opportunity to try out a variety of sports and activities, delivering these in progressive, differentiated lessons that allow pupils to progress at their own pace. We also want children to enjoy teamwork and the buzz of competition, and so provide opportunities for all children in Years 1-6 to participate in fixtures, leagues and tournaments against other schools.
Music
At Benedict House, they believe in every child’s ability to learn and develop. We encourage all our children to embrace and explore music, which promotes teamwork, and builds confidence. We aim to recognise each pupil’s strengths and talents and to develop these to their fullest potential.
Trips
At Benedict House, they utilise the rich resources on our doorstep by taking trips into London and Kent as well as having companies come to us to provide engaging and memorable workshops. Each year group has at least one school trip per term to enrich their curriculum. Additionally, the Year 5 children embark each year on a two-night residential trip where they engage in team building activities and their first experience of independent life and communication skills. In Year 6 children travel to Italy for a ski trip and a four-night residential stay where they can build upon their independence and resilience in order to ready themselves for the transition to secondary school and beyond
