Cambridge International School

Cherry Hinton Hall, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire CB1 8DW, UK
2-11 Years

Description

Oaks International School is a small and flourishing independent day school, specialising in the education of children aged 2 – 11 years old, from the UK and overseas. The school is situated within a park with access to woodland, open space and fresh air. Small class sizes and a family feel enable the children to develop as individuals within a calm and nurturing environment.

Facilities

They provide high quality, purposefully planned play opportunities that enable children to develop and flourish. They place equal importance on both the inside and outside environments and ensure that each area stimulates the children’s imaginations. Spacious learning environments enable children to be active learners, become independent and develop creative and critical thinking skills. They introduce the skills to prepare them for reading writing, maths, science and many other areas of school life. The Nursery provision has full access to all the facilities of the Primary School and they have time each week with specialist Sport, Music and Spanish teachers. They follow the areas of Learning and Development identified in Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Features

Things to note

  • Clubs are held at school during lunch and after school and offer an opportunity to push boundaries and explore activities outside of the classroom. They also allow students across different year groups to work together as a team.
  • The majority of clubs are included in the fees, however there is a charge for some clubs and parents are made aware of this. They offer a wide range of activities to ensure that there is something of interest to everyone.
  • Clubs are reviewed on a termly basis and the requests and interests are taken into consideration when planning the extra-curricular timetable.
  • Current clubs include: Chess, Singing, Drama, Mandarin, Jazzercise, Multisport, Board Games, Tennis and Football clubs
  • At the current time, they are able to offer piano and guitar lessons at OIS. These are run by experienced instrumental teachers from outside the school, and fees for these lessons are payable to them directly.

Selection Criteria: Selective

Admission Details

OIS is not formally academically selective; however, they do have high expectations for all pupils. They welcome students subject to the availability of places and fulfilment of admissions requirements. They strive to balance classes according to age and gender and priority is given to siblings of children already at the school. They are supportive of families who move, live and work internationally and thus we accept pupils into OIS for short-term programmes as well as for standard academic years. They are also offering flexible learning opportunities for children who are home learning. Children can join the nursery the day after their second birthday and must attend for a minimum of 4 sessions a week. A session is for a morning and/or afternoon. Contact on [email protected] or call +44 (0) 1223 416938 with any questions you may have, book a visit or attend an open event and start the application and admissions process. Before submitting an application have a look at the Admissions Policy and Terms and Conditions as this contains helpful practical information.
