Dame Allan’s was founded in 1705 to provide quality education for boys and girls in Newcastle. They are unique in the region as the only school following the pioneering Diamond Structure of education, which combines single-sex education within a co-educational setting.
In Junior School and Nursery, boys and girls learn together. At the age of 11, they move into single-sex Boys’ and Girls’ Schools, where they are taught separately leading up to their GCSE examinations. When the students begin their A Level studies, they move into co-educational Sixth Form.

Sixth Form students are encouraged to make the most of opportunities that extend their learning outside the classroom to make them not only brilliant academics, but well-rounded members of society. Whether it is developing a wider interest in a subject area through educational visits and societies or enhancing their leadership and teamwork skills, they have something in which every student can get involved. Sixth Form students are active members of several senior sports teams and contribute to the arts in drama productions, Vizavis dance company and various musical groups. They participate in World Challenge, the Schools' Combined Cadet Force, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and annual leadership weekend at Derwent Hill. Students are also encouraged to contribute to the wider community through Youth Parliament, community service, peer mentoring, and charity work; this has seen students raise thousands of pounds for good causes in recent years.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Entry into the Sixth Form is dependent on GCSE results, an interview with the Head of Sixth Form and is subject to a satisfactory reference from the student’s existing school.
